Breast Cancer Awareness Month

United States
October 5, 2015 9:58am CST
For those that live in the States, know that the month of October is deemed 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month'. You will start seeing more and more people wearing pink, or donning the pink ribbon, and stores will sell 'pink' items and give a part of the sale to support the cause. Now, I am one woman who absolutely hates the color pink, so I won't be wearing pink or the ribbon, or buying pink products. However, I do donate money to the cause. I have had a sister who passed away from breast cancer, and a sister-in-law you has had double Mastectomy. Has breast cancer affected you? Or someone you love? Know any breast cancer survivors?

I like the color pink, but not for Autumn clothes. No women in my family had bread cancer, but this is not a reason not to support the cause. I know a woman who survived.

I'm not sure why they picked October for the month. Pink does seem like it would be better in the spring time. I have to agree with you, just cause you or a love one hasn't been affected by it. So many others have, it is nice to be able to support such a good cause. Does Switzerland have causes like this? Where it become a National thing?

@purplealabaster Either way it's a shame. Cancer is not good no matter who gets it, where it's found or what gender they are.

I really do not like the color pink, either. I will wear it from time to time, but it is certainly not a color that I would choose for just about anything. Most of the time when I wear it there are other colors along with it like in a graphic design or something like that. However, I can see my sister giggling down at me thinking it is hilarious that I would have to wear pink in her honor.

@Rosekitty LOL - Pink flowers are not as bad as pink clothing, so I guess that I could suffer through that. Then again, I am a flower and my petals are my clothes, so that is just a dirty trick.

I donĀ“t usually use ribbons or the like in solidarity. But I help with what money I can to the chidren with cancer in my country. I know what it is like. I lost a 7 year old grandson to cancer some years ago.

Yes, I make donations to the cancer centers, and the children's hospitals. Oh no! I couldn't even begin to imagine losing a child or grandchild. So sorry for your lost.

this is a beautiful initiative. there are too many women who die because of this simply because they don't give the needed importance to the medical checks they are supposed to make

@swissheart Really? I never heard that before. Is the reason due to your age or something else?

My mother-in-law suffered from it. She won the battle and now she is in the place without pain. *sniffs*

I like pink, but don't wear much of it except lipstick. Supporting the cause is so important. It really has helped saved so many lives. I am so sorry to hear about your sister and hope your sister-in-law will be okay. A couple of my friends have survived.
