Do You Have Office Theme Days?

We have a theme day at the office this Friday (it's one of the BPO work cultures). It will be a Children's Party theme and everyone will dress up like kids during kiddie parties. Heck I don't even know what to do with my hair yet but I already have an outfit to wear later. Other teams are also designing their work stations but I think it's quite a hassle to do that. My team are the last to design our work area, we will be doing it later. There was no announcement that there's going to be a prize for best work area design so I think it's a waste of time to join that. But of course my team mates want to join so we won't be the only team without any design on that day. Any of you have theme days and contests at work too? Do you join or don't like having such things at work?

Be Anna from Frozen! I don't know why people are so crazy about Elsa anyway. I work from home so if I have a theme I'm going to be the only one in a costume.

Hahaha, well maybe join other people's theme days if you get the chance. I don't think ours is a costume party though. They did not specify so I'll just go in my most child appropriate colored dress.

@owstalaga Haha child approprate colored dress sounds good enough. My brother had a horror movie theme day at his workplace and they made "graveyards" at random places in the office. I thought that was pretty funny.

I don't work in an office, I work in a grocery store as a stock clerk. My "theme" is a uniform of dark blue shirt with the store emblem on it and a pair of brown jeans. The jeans I am able to get away with as I work at night, but they are really supposed to be khakis. However, back in school we had spirit week where we could dress in different ways for one week of the year. One day we could show up in pajamas.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ooooh, that spirit week sounds fun! We never have those kinds of things in school. No theme days but we have a lot of fun activities every month. I guess theme days at stores would be fun to look at too if they implement it. Don't they let you wear costumes during Halloween or some other holiday just for fun?

@Tita417 Well this was in school so we still had work to do. Though I wish they would let me work in my pajamas at work. Of course seeing as I wear short shorts and a tank top it wouldn't be the most proper attire.

We don't have theme days at the office, it's a very small company and they are not very organized with team events. I would join every theme day, party or event with the relevant appearance if they were organized at my office. I love these kind of events.

Aw... maybe you should start it if you really want to have fun. :) Maybe just a group of friends at work or something.

@owstalaga I will give the idea and hopefully some of them will follow. Most of them work individually at the moment and there is no team bonding at all. I am in a small group and I had a girl in my team who would find it exciting but she left recently.

i remember taping a small snowman on top of my monitor on december 1st in one company i worked for. i think putting up christmas decorations is commonplace, but schools have more with students and teachers participating. if those themes are for a day only, then yes, it's a hassle and expensive, so giving a prize would be the only way to make everyone participate. maybe it's a common practice at BPOs because employees there usually earn more.

BPOs do it for fun and entertainment, otherwise our job would be too stressful, droll, boring and unmotivating.

@owstalaga without all these new ideas that you think is a drag it really helps out when everyone works out to do his best for the theme and the team

I'm self-employed and it's just me, so I don't have co-workers. While it sounds like fun, it sounds like a lot of effort in your off time. Doesn't it cut into your free time, and is it expensive to pull all this together?

Well most of the time these things are done during work hours... you know some do it even while talking to their customers, as long as they have their hands free they will do it. Or they do it on breaks or just stay for a bit before going home. Sometimes it is expensive, but if there are big prizes then the cost is not a problem. Personally I think it is a waste of money but it depends on the theme and the prize.

We had these theme days in my old working place. There were so much fun. We used to have those days once in a month. Most fun themes I remember are the vampire theme and beach theme.

Oh a vampire theme! I've never experienced that yet. Only the usual Halloween themes. I forgot the other themes we had... Oh I also joined what we call Santacruzan where so called Queens would parade in regal gowns with their escort prince's.

@Mounicar I'm hoping we have one at the end of the month but I doubt it because we will be too busy on that day.

Oh a pink day! Cool! I think I had one of those color days too. Forgot what color it was though. Not too memorable.

We girls would just get into a colour whenever we decided to go out for lunch. I being the senior most would decide on what colour to wear. The whole office (we had 10 floors) would then know that we were planning on going out

That's nice! It would probably be much fun if the whole office would have a theme party or something.

@owstalaga Will try. Maybe on special occasions. We might not be taken seriously by our clients.
