Brrr, Cold Morning... Time for Solar Heating!

On a cold morning like this, I'm glad to have some old fashioned solar heating in my home. When the sun shines, I go to each window, and open the curtains! Ah... warm sunlight. Eventually I would like the passive kind of solar heating, but this is good too!

solar panels are becoming cheaper, and I have even seen some portable ones that don't need installed, one could say, hook it up to an electric heater or something. these are goals of mine as well.

@OneOfMany that's exactly what I want, and maybe fans. a wood stove would handle heating needs, but the summers are terrible, would need a fan or two.

@Jessicalynnt That's why if I ever have the funds to build my own house, I would build most of it underground. Less heating and cooling costs, and highly weather resistant. Built on the side of a hill, no flood worries.

I want a solar system with a back up battery system for the house, so when the grid goes down, I can still do work on the computer, run the heating system (which is gas), and run the fridge. I don't need anything else on. A passive solar heating system would be nice as well, since winters are really cold here.

The sun was warm today, I opened all the windows to let it inside. It's too early for the heating.

I have my heater set to come on when it reaches 50 degrees (12 C). Under that is too cold for me so far.

@OneOfMany I have the same setting, if we go below 12 C the heater comes on.

LOL sometimes even if the sun is shining it is still cold out. But let the sun shine in my friend. It will make your day brighter!

Yes, but even in a frigid winter, if the sun is shining it will heat the inside of the house by coming through the window! Of course, the amount of heat from the sun in that case isn't enough to matter much at all!
