Magic 8 Ball

I was walking through the toy section in a store today and, lo and behold, there was a Magic 8 ball. That thing has been around for a very long time. I looked it up and it came out in the 1950's by Mattel. I remember as a young girl being so enthralled by the "magic" fortune the ball would tell when you asked a question - things like "It is decidedly so" or "Concentrate and ask again". What fun for a young and gullible dreamer. Have you ever had a Magic 8 ball?

I'm afraid I've never heard of it. If it's been around that long it must be popular.

I guess the toys we know here may be different from those in the UK, well, back then anyway. Now I'm curious what kinds of toys kids in the 1960s UK played with. **where's the hint, hint emoji?***

@rebelann Oh sheesh, I don't know. In the 60s I was in my 20s and hadn't yet got kids of my own. When I was a kid we didn't have much, but played with balls, skipping ropes, marbles etc.

I saw one once at a friends house when I was a kid (1960s) but it belonged to her brother so we didn't mess with it.

Sorry for my ignorance but I have not seen that Magic 8 ball. Now I am so curious and would certainly look for it at the Toy Section the next time I shop.

It's worth a check out especially if you have little ones on your Christmas list

Not heard of it. Is it vocal or you just get to see a text message?

When I was a little girl I had one. I remember how much I loved to play with that thing and see what it had to tell me. I used to shake it until it gave me the answer I wanted it to! lol.

Yes, it had a limited amount of answers but you always hoped for the one you wanted.

My young lad would love one of these - he saw one on an old episode of The Simpsons. I may have to try a few specialty toy shops in the run up to Christmas.

I don't think that I ever had one, but remember playing with them in some café that had them on the tables. They were great fun.
