Donating To An Animal Shelter

My grandson was invited to a birthday party for a classmate on Saturday.
What struck me as unusual was that on the invitation it asked that instead of a birthday gift for the classmate that each child bring something to donate to the animal shelter. There was a list of suggested items to bring and the items would be donated.
I thought this was a great idea and unusual. My daughter said it's not all that unusual but I never heard of it before.
Have you ever heard of this?

No, it is not usual. I see these on TV or on Facebook all the time. It is also not usual for kids to donate their birthday money to a rescue group. I think it's great, the kids are learning a valuable lesson and bringing publicity to the cause.

I think it's a wonderful idea too and teaches the children to help those less fortunate

No I have never heard of this before but I love it. I think this is an excellent idea for a child's birthday party and too bad more parents don't do this.

Yes, I have heard of it, especially with more affluent families. I think it is a nice way to teach children the importance of helping others. I love it.
