Donating To An Animal Shelter

United States
October 19, 2015 10:06am CST
My grandson was invited to a birthday party for a classmate on Saturday. What struck me as unusual was that on the invitation it asked that instead of a birthday gift for the classmate that each child bring something to donate to the animal shelter. There was a list of suggested items to bring and the items would be donated. I thought this was a great idea and unusual. My daughter said it's not all that unusual but I never heard of it before. Have you ever heard of this?

No, it is not usual. I see these on TV or on Facebook all the time. It is also not usual for kids to donate their birthday money to a rescue group. I think it's great, the kids are learning a valuable lesson and bringing publicity to the cause.

I think it's very nice of the child to ask for such a thing. Most children are not mature enough to forego presents.

Yes, suggestions like that sometimes happen here. Kids are more aware these days and believe it or not, often think of others more than themselves. I've noticed this a lot at school where kids want to help needy causes.

I think it's a wonderful idea too and teaches the children to help those less fortunate

No I have never heard of this before but I love it. I think this is an excellent idea for a child's birthday party and too bad more parents don't do this.

Yes, I have heard of it, especially with more affluent families. I think it is a nice way to teach children the importance of helping others. I love it.
