Beautiful Stars Who Have Aged Horribly

I'm getting really tired of this ad. They show a beautiful 20 something woman and then the same person at maybe 50 and try to make the point that she's aged horribly. Fact is the older face is not horrible at all -- she's just older. I don't find old faces ugly. They wear their years of experience and life in those lines. I much prefer to see someone who is herself to someone all pumped up with botox and facelifts. Does a woman really have to look like a girl all her life, or is she allowed to pass through the different stages of her life with grace and honesty? Can't even famous women become grandmothers?

If more people were content to age naturally , everyone, young and old, would feel more beautiful.

That's true. A false sense of beauty is being promoted and even young beautiful women can feel not good enough.

I find it creepy when a woman I know is in her 70s or 80s and uses Botox, lip enhancers like collagen, face lifts, etc. in order to look young. Often, it just makes them look like an old woman with a deformed face! However, some women must like looking like that and I try not to judge them, any more than I judge the women with lots of wrinkles. I love their natural beauty.

It's not so much about judging them, it's just that there seems to be so much pressure for a famous person to remake their face. That transfers to ordinary women as well. It's another way to objectify a woman and not see her as a person.

We all age, it's either that or die I guess.

Or as my Dad and other people I've heard have said, "It's better than the alternative."

I agree. We should be allowed to age gracefully without feeling guilty.

I know. I actually don't mind seeing an image of my grandmother when I look in the mirror these days. I loved her dearly. Why can't older women be respected a little more?

@Sheilamarie78 They are. But to be respected, both the perceiver and the perceived have to value things like accomplishments, experience, and the confidence/self-knowledge that comes with age. If it's all about eggs, the 20-year-old wins. My sense is that the Botox Queens haven't accomplished enough that THEY respect. And so they turn themselves into freaks.

@TheHorse That's sad. I guess when you're in an industry that values looks above all else, you would view an aging face as something to be ashamed of.

I don't wear makeup. I don't colour my hair. Yes, there are wrinkles. Yes, my hair is silver. Why is this a problem? We will all get old eventually.

Yes, we will. Age isn't a disease and doesn't mean your person has shrivelled. In some ways, I feel more alive now than I did when I was a young woman.

It is not fair to compare the beauty between a young girl and an aged woman. People all get old one day. Getting old doesn't mean that you will look ugly. On the contrary, sometimes people will even look better when they are older. Because at that time they are much more elegant. I remember an old model who comes from UK. Her hair is already white. But she still looks great no matter how she dresses up. Unfortunately I forgot her name. She is still alive.
