How do you decorate your home for Christmas?

This year, we are not going to buy any new Christmas decorations, we are going to make them all instead. We are rather annoyed by the commercialistic approach that many people take towards the festive season, so this year we are going to design and make all of our own decorations. We are going back to our paganic routes to make our pretty adorations by using pine cones, holly, ivy, mistletoe and a whole host of nature's bounty. It just doesn't feel right to adorn a Christmas tree which has pagan origins with cheap tat and metallic tinsel!

Since I have enough Christmas decorations to do the entire county I switch things up every year but I don't add new things, just too much stuff already. We did get a new tree last year, a little shorter and prelit....which then meant I had over 1,000 extra lights to use outside. I like to decorate with lots of lights outside since we live in the country and it's dark out there

Each year the poor kids are entertained during Christmas time, at different locations. Sometimes it is at our own place. This year will be at ours. I am having polka dots as the theme.

"How do you decorate your home for Christmas?" Although i have been doing these for years, I think the thing to consider most is being " eco-friendly" and Earth friendly as well, like using led bulbs, something that's solar powered to charge 12 volt batteries instead of the usual 110 or 220 volts ac. I do agree with the other posts of using things over and over as i do with our Christmas tree and lights. Recycling is also the name of the game, I've seen beautiful lanterns here made from pet bottles that sells last year for about $3.00 in our country. Let's start and pick up from here, let's all do our planet a favor while enjoying the holidays

I love your comment - It is so true, just because we are having a fine time does not mean that the planet should suffer!

Thats a shame, but don't worry - I have spent many Christmas's in army camps and it is always good fun! Make sure that you get your ration of gunfire on Christmas morning!
