School lessons, how useful were they afterwards?

Did your favourite subject in school play any part in your life afterwards? Mine was English and writing has been a source of great pleasure to me and occasionally has brought some financial reward. Shorthand was quite beneficial although I wasn't fast enough to use it at work, however it is useful for making quick notes.

I never really liked shorthand even I was fast enough to use it at work. I loved Art and geography.

I think you travel a lot so maybe the geography worked for you.

Mathematics. It is useful forever and ever. i think many people never take in the lesson of compounding in Maths lesson. If they pay more attention, they will not get into credit card debt. The power of compounding works for the banks, and can make us bankrupt.

I agree, people judge us on our language skills probably more than anything else.

Well, yes and no... I work at a major retail store selling cell phones. My favorite subjects were math and English. I use math quite a bit when writing a program and use the English classes on several online sites.

Maths and English are the most useful subjects in my humble opinion as I'm sure you have discovered for yourself.

You couldn't have taken this course without maths, so I am sure you made a very good choice.

We never got to learn shorthand in school but I did a course in that later. English obviously took me to places so to say. I did not like history but was fond of maths and science.

I learned shorthand but never used it afterwards. Typing was beneficial and so was learning English.

I am one of those people that hated school and every part of it. I guess I have no idea if it played into my life at all. I am just glad to be done with it.
