Oh My Aching Back

I've always had a very strong back. But this week I've been suffering from sciatica. I've seen people shuffling along with back pain before and always felt bad for them. The last couple of days I've been feeling bad for ME. Ouch. It hurts most when I sit so I'm half sitting, half standing writing this. I'm not one to slow down much and laying down all day is out of the question. Oh well - hopefully a little rest for a couple of more days and I'll be back to my old spry self. Thanks for letting me whine ?

Two years ago I had that for the first time. It was the worst pain I've ever had. I was on meds but that didn't help , finally went to therapy 3 times a week for 5 or 6 weeks and slowly I was able to gt back to normal. I never want to experience that again. Rest does nothing to help it. It takes the proper exercises. I have all mine memorized so that if I feel a twinge I can put them to work.

I will have to look up those exercises. I'm glad you got yours to go away. Thanks for the tips.

@suziecat7 I'm sure you can find some. They aren't strenuous...they are stretching exercises.

When u have sciatica i believe it is best to stretch it out. Also to roll on a ball also helps. Sciatcia is run from the back of your thighs up your butt to your lower back. Of course i'm not doctor but this is what i have heard from my cousin who is a physcial therapist. My mom and aunt get some bad sciatica pain and they deal with it on and off. I know it gets in the way of doing things some times as well. I'm not one to stop doing things either and stopping makes us go insane. Hope you are doing better and stretch if you can. Have a better night.

Well, I don't have a chiropractor but if this keeps up I'll look for one.

Sciatica normally starts in the legs, I think. Have you ever tried pressing on muscles to release them? I've had something pulling off and on for a few weeks. The pain is normally in my thigh and lower back area, but when I press different areas on the side and back of my thigh I can usually find the offending section. It hurts a lot when pressed, but if you press somewhat gently it breaks the pulled muscle and gives a bit of relief. I'm not sure whether I'm bending incorrectly, or lifting or what is actually causing it for me. It does't bother me every day, but when it does I try to massage that area a bit each night and after a few days the pain is almost nil. My husband used to do it for me, but he can't feel how it is and presses harder than I do. At least I can tell when I've overdoing it to some degree. I've also done this before for quite a while. I can do it at work too.
