Getting strange 'Messages' in myLot

United States
October 26, 2015 6:38am CST
Yesterday I received a message asking me to read and comment on his/her discussions. I didn't pay attention to the name, which I wouldn't repeat here anyway, so I am not sure it it was a him or a her. Anyway, I responded that I didn't think asking people to do that was acceptable here. The person came back and apologized. I just received another similar request. I am starting to see a pattern so instead of responding I will just delete the message. Is anyone else seeing this?

Yes, I have had one (with a pink avatar). I haven't replied to it yet and was considering reporting it, though I shall probably just do what you did - reprimand the sender and delete it ... this time. FYI - to report a message, you need to copy the body of the message and paste it into one to GoAskAlice, with a short explanation. He will take care of it.

Just to be clear, it was not MY pink avatar to which you are referring.

I have also had a couple of those messages - I think it is people trying to find their way around the inability to suggest their own posts. I see it as begging letters. I replied to the messages with the following.. Please refrain from sending me personal messages begging me to comment on your posts. I am perfectly capable of finding interesting posts by myself. If I do not find a post interesting, I will not comment on it.

That sounds good...there will be some who pay attention and others who will keep trying.

@AbbyGreenhill One of the people did reply with an apology so some will listen! Hopefully they will remove me from their mailing shenanigans!

Messaging is the preferred means to do this, or using the "mention" feature for relevant comments. If you don't wish to recieve these sort of private messages, just ask the person nicely to not do so. If you have done this and it continues to happen, then message me and I will put a stop to it.

I think if you tell someone you are not interested and they keep sending pm's they should stop. Otherwise I guess they want someone to read their stuff? Not sure what is going on there.

I think they are doing it since the suggest button was 'killed'....just another way to beg for people to participate.

I got a message like that a while ago. I just deleted it because I'm sure that it's against the rules. I didn't want to be involved in it so I just deleted the message without replying.

I have had messages saying "I'm following you" etc. I just ignore them. Probably only two the last few months, so not a problem really.

Strange, I have never gotten a message like that here. It could be one of those people that joined and likes to spam others. Maybe you should send GoAskAlex about this.

I have had one today, I just ignored it but if this kind of thing continues it will be a bad sign, it means we are accumulating hangers on for the money and not the content.

I have not received any such message so far after suggest option was disabled. However, I receive notifications from dear friends who draw my attention towards a particular discussion and I appreciate their efforts and I immediately check the post suggested by them.

I am sorry you are having this happen. The lack of the suggestion box may be affecting them. They may not know how to navigate very well around the site.

I have had one writer from here using the messaging option as a way round the changes in suggestions against recommending your own posts - anyone persisting in that is going to get reported to admin.

I haven't got that kind of message but it sounds like begging which I'm pretty sure is not acceptable. They must be new and can't figure out how to get people to read their stories. If they just responded to others I think they would know the answer.

@AbbyGreenhill I can see this. I know some of my followers really like a few things because of their responses on my discussion. But I will never send them a PM to go to a new discussion. I leave it up to them to find it if they are interested. See I found yours because it interested me. Might of taken a bit to find it but I did find it.

@poehere LOL, all good things take time to find. If I read something that I thought was very good/interesting and wanted to share it I would do so. But it wouldn't be mine.
