Skeletons for Lunch

Laguna Woods, California

While walking around Balboa Island in Newport Bay, one of the delightful Halloween decorations we came across was these three happy skeletons having a pleasant seaside lunch together! I love the decorations that people put out for the holiday ... and the fact that they are so trusting that anyone can walk right up to them and take their photo. What really amazed me was that the walkway was not crowded at all! Of course, we were taking our walk on a week day. However, it was the day before Halloween, so you would have thought it would have been more crowded!

Great photo. You didn't disturb the skeleton's meal? lol

Strange ... they didn't seem to even notice when I walked up to them! LOL

Maybe people were afraid that it would be too windy, since it was the tail end of a Santa Ana event.

I agree that people may have avoided the island because of the wind ... although it turned out not to be windy there at all.

@DeborahDiane It's really hard to tell where it will hit hardest since the hills and mountains have an effect, as well as wind direction, of course.

Sounds beautiful! It is a wonder someone has not stole them. It seems so many people have sticky fingers around here. Another words they will steal anything that is not nailed down.

@DeborahDiane I am glad there are a few honest people too. It seems where I live people can be evil. You know the snow globes that are in people's yards at Christmas time? Well, someone had one for Halloween/fall, instead of falling snow it was falling leaves. I seen the other day some one had gone by the road and shot a hole in it with a bow and arrow. People are cruel.

@slund2041 - That is so horrible ... and so sad. I agree that there are cruel people out there, but there are good people, too.

I have to admit that I am pleased that people seem to leave the decorations alone ... even they are all within arms reach of the sidewalk. Glad to know there are still honest people left.

@wiLLmaH - They were one of my favorite decorations on the island. They were more cute than scary!

That was always one of my favorite places to walk when I lived in the area. I had a friend who rented a tiny apartment there and spent a lot of time on the island. Does the ferry still run over to the Pavilion area?

@DeborahDiane Great that some things never change.

Yes, the ferry still runs and it is still very cheap. It only costs $1 for passengers and $2 for cars each way. I ride it once or twice a year, just for fun!

How cute and I am sure it drew a lot of attention. I miss some of these things and don't get to see them here on the islands.

Living in French Polynesia must be wonderful, though! I'm sure it has its own festivals!

I wonder where skeletons keep their wallets? I hope it won't be hard to collect when it's time to pay for their meal.

The skeletons look awful but certainly, many people are visiting the resort because of this eye-catching display.

Yes, I go to the island a couple of times a year just to see the decorations for the different holidays.

They seem to be having a good laugh that they cannot stomach their meal.

There are not any decorations in my retirement community, since no children live here. However, I love going over to this little island about 15 miles away and seeing their decorations!

I love seeing the decorations people put up for holidays. My youngest loved all the houses that had decorated for Halloween, though she was a little scared of the motion sensor zombie one house had.

It looks like a leisurely lunch between friends, even if they are skeletons. Well done. Great picture.
