Tough decision made

I posted before that I was told that I might be able to move to being full time at my job but that I wasn't sure if I was ready. After thinking about it every day since it was mentioned to me I've decided that I am interested in becoming full time and decided to let my boss know today. I talked to him before I left and he was happy to hear that I am interested in a full time position if one becomes available. He wants to add another full time position once the one part timer quits come January or so (he is graduating college next month), but isn't sure if he will be allowed to add one or not. He said that he didn't want to move forward with trying to get the position until he knew I was interested, so there is no guarantee that I will get a full time position. If it was solely up to my boss, I would have it and be able to start as soon as I wanted, but he has to get it approved. Whether the people with that power agree with him that we could use another full timer is hard to say. They may tell him to just hire another part timer, which he would rather not do. They might flat out say no. And they could also approve it. All I can do now is wait and see. He will tell me either way once he knows. Then I can proceed to figure out how my life will work with me being full time. There is the issue of only one car for two of us to get to work and the issue of my kids getting on the bus, possibly with me not here to make sure they do. There is lots to think about, but the biggest part of the decision has been made.

I hope it works out well for you. As a parent there is always double to worry about (kids on bus) etc. I wish you the best.

@fawkes62 Is there anyone in your neighborhood or area that she could possibly ride with to school or even walk with to the bus stop?

Thank you. I don't worry so much about her on the bus since it is the school bus, but I worry about her making to the bus stop on time.

@Shellyann36 The bus stop is just a few houses down the street, so that isn't the worry. The biggest problem is she tends to take her time getting ready each day and doesn't always get out the door when she should. I worry that if I'm not home she will be worse and actually miss the bus.

I hope it works out so that you can go full time. It will be an adjustment but it seems like you are ready to make the change. Good luck.

Thank you. It's all waiting now to see if he can get the position or not. I have no idea how long that will take. January is the hope but it could be longer.

In the grocery store (largest chain of grocery store here in Canada). seldom they hire full-timers. . mostly are either anytimers or restricted. Anytimers are those workers who are available for work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are given a maximum of 28 hours of work a week. I am restricted as I have another job (full-time). Restricted workers are those who are only available for work for some hours in particular days in a week. I can only work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 5 pm to 10 pm. And since I am now top-pay-rate . . 16 hours a week is good enough for me.

I worked at a grocery store years ago and hated it. My husband works retail and most the time seems to enjoy it. The stores around here have a mix of full time and part time people, full time is usually 36 to 40 hours and part time is up to 36 hours, but they do tend to hire more part timers than full timers.

Thank you, I hope it all works out too. Hopefully the waiting won't be too long before I find out whether he can get me full time or not.
