No Drilling - No Paycheck

When the price of oil is down, it seems most people enjoy it. The price of gas goes down, this is great. BUT!!!!! When the price of oil is down, the oil companies stop drilling! This is not good when you are working in the oil field. My town is a big oil field town. There are so many people out of work around here it's crazy! Our company has been so slow, but we are very fortunate that our owners have said that no one would be laid off. Thank goodness! We are all trying to find things to keep us busy here while we wait for the price of oil to go up. Several businesses around us have actually had to close their doors, laying the entire company off. We are praying here that the price of oil goes up soon. Too many people are losing their jobs. While you may be enjoying the lower gas prices, the oil field workers would gladly pay more to hold on to their jobs!

Here in Canada lots of layoffs in the oil and gas! My daughter, a programmer and working in one of the large oil companies here, is a bit uncomfortable because some of her coworkers were already laid off.

Hope your daughter doesn't end up in a lay off. So far no layoffs here, but I don't know how close we are to some.

Prices did rise a little recently. No big recovery is predicted in the immediate future.

That sounds like how it is here. We had a huge oil boom in the state when prices were high but as prices have dropped there has been a reduction in oil production in the state.
