An introduction

I’m still figuring out this myLot thing (this will be my third discussion) and I was trying to think of something to post. And I figured more of a bio of myself can’t hurt. My name is Stephen L. Thompson, and I grew up on a small farm in northwestern Pennsylvania. I went to college outside of Philadelphia and got a BS in Physics. After some random jobs, I worked at a company that makes industrial lubricants for five or six years, and about five years ago I moved back to the farm to help out my family and to write. I started writing in college, mostly scifi but I dabble in other genres, and for the longest time I was known to my writer friends as the short story guy. I like short stories because you can bang them out in a few days (or even a few hours) instead of spending week after week, month after month working on a novel. However, over the last few years it seems as if the ideas I’m getting require longer stories to fully work out. Which means I just need to write more, and while figuring out the solution was easy, implementing it turns out to be a bit harder. I have had a few short stories and poems accepted for publication in small magazines or on websites. Disturbingly, the vast majority of these places are no longer in business. I’ve also self-published three print collections of short stories, as well as several ebooks of short stories as well as one of essays. I have a list of priority projects that I hope to finish and self-publish next year which includes another print collection of short stories, eight ebooks of short stories, and one ebook of haiku. So I really need to get to work on that. As to my online writing, I did a little before I heard about Bubblews. There I was up to three or four posts a day and trying to ramp that up when it imploded. I branched out to a few other sites, several of which imploded as well, which pretty much knocked the legs out from under my drive to post. I’m hoping to get that drive back and post at least once a day here, but we’ll have to see how that goes. I guess if you want to know anything else, just ask.
