Controversy Over STARBUCKS Christmas Cups

Philippines
November 10, 2015 1:16pm CST
Boycott Starbucks over their Christmas cups? WHY? I've had a couple of Starbucks early on this month and I don't see anything wrong with the cup. It is even better! I like the simplicity of it and the color. This is what I know... in customer service (over the telephone or in a public setup) businesses: we are instructed to AVOID greeting customers Merry Christmas or even saying God Bless. We wouldn't know if they will get offended by that greeting. The only important thing I know is to greet them with either good morning, good afternoon or good evening. Hello Hi. Have a nice day! Take care! And of course, SHOW/GIVE THEM RESPECT! If you don't like the cups, or if you're offended by it's shape, color or design... then make your own coffee! :)

There are SO many other concerns, bigger ones, about our planet - I mean, really - is THIS cup design really worth all the stink it's been given? It's the Starbucks logo on a plain red cup - big deal. Some people will just read into anything and twist it around. Sheesh - just have a nice, hot cup of coffee and relax, silly people!!!

Boycott Starbucks? With pleasure! Not because of the colour of the cups (which I like) but because of their stupidly high prices and their enormous range of ridiculously named ways of serving coffee!

@owlwings @Marilynda1225 I've ordered plain, regular, normal coffee from Starbucks - for the price (even if it were for free) it tastes absolutely horrible!!!

I'm with you... I have many more reasons not to go to starbucks than their cups.

Funny Christians get all bent out of shape because the cup doesn't say Merry Christmas. But I don't hear any Jewish saying anything when they see it on anything.

Exactly! Back when I was religious, I didn't get butthurt if people didn't say "happy Yule."

I don't see a controversy here, people are getting stupider by the day.

Anyone who believes a plain red cup is an affront to those who celebrate Christmas needs to rethink their priorities in life.

I prefer my own coffee if I am honest, or should I say my husbands given that he makes it more often than me, hey @djgarner86 ? Much better than overpriced rubbish.

I find it quite childish that authorities are eager to avoid any reference to the traditions of the country in case some foreigner takes offence. These objections only ever seem to be directed towards the traditions or religion etcetera of the country in which they are being imposed. There rarely seem to be complaints about foreign nationals in the country celebrating their holiday events or religion.

I boycott starbucks. I boycott Starbucks for the mere fact that they are too expensive! On a side note, I don't care whether someone says Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Koom Byah Or what have you. People get offended far too easily.

I don't drink their coffee, mostly because of their prices, but I've never had any, so I never got addicted. Neither have I seen this on the news. Silly, I agree. This comment brought to you by @PhredWreck, and his activity stream.

If that's what the cup looks like, I don't mind it. I'm not so soft-headed as to be offended by a color. In customer service, where I work too, we have the same policy. I'll tell them happy holidays back if they say it first but I don't initiate.

I'm at Starbucks right now and drinking a cup coffee. I took the cup sleeve off to see what could possibly be so offensive about a red cup. All I found was a red cup with the Starbucks logo on it. Of all the important issues to take a stand on, they chose this?! Some people need to get a life.

I personally like the simplicity. The cup could have anything on it. I go in there for the product not what is on the cup.

Hahaha Love your post! I think people are just way too sensitive. Its not like it says merry Christmas because you know that offends people too. This topic just makes my blood boil. I feel like everything good is being taken away from us. Its just a damn color and yes make your own damn coffee!!!

Some people just always have to find something to complain about. It's sad. As you've said, if they don't like it then they should just make their own coffee or get it elsewhere. Unless they are the Grinch or Ebenezer Scrooge, I don't see how it would hurt them to drink out of festive cup. I mean, come on. I also feel like companies should be able to celebrate whichever holiday they choose. Many of us live in countries that are full of different cultures, races, and religions. We should all embrace our differences or at least respect them.

I too don't get the whole controversy regarding Starbucks Christmas Cups! The cup itself is holiday inspired with the green, red, and white!

Some people just have nothing else to do! why can't they just go somewhere else and buy their own coffee, Im sure it's less expensive that way. I bet it's even more expensive buying at starbucks! too much obession over coffee when it's supposed to be just simple caffeine

I went to Starbucks only about 3 times in my life. Their prices are so ridiculous, their coffee is not that good. I think people want to be seen carrying their coffee cup so for them it shows the world that they are higher than others because they can buy this expensive coffee. For the Christmas "so called controversy", this is so pitiful!
