I Dream of Winter No More

I used to dream of Winter.. I wanted to experience this cold, cold weather in my country. Whenever I see winter photos I could not help but be mesmerized.
But after hearing the many difficulties brought about by winter, I think I need not dream of winter anymore. I should rather be thankful that I live in a tropical country with lots of sunshine.
Am I right or not?

@salonga , my part of South Africa, Johannesburg, does usually not get snow in winter, but, other parts of South Africa do sometimes get snow in winter, especially the places close to the mountains. South Africa has many provinces and all seem to have their own weather. Our coast is being hit by a cold front, while inland we are boiling hot.

There is a lot more than difficulties associated with winter. There is the wonder of snow and all you can do in it. Just take a look at the winter Olympics for example. I think there are as many winter sports as summer. I love winter and though I can't do as much as I used to, just being here where winter happens is enough for me.
The tropics are nice, but after a while it gets boring because there isn't the change of seasons we get here. I lived on Guam for 16 months.

I prefer a nice tropical day rather than a cold, snowy one

I grew up largely in Chicago. I grew used to seasons. I miss the snow, living on the flatlands in California. But after about a month of cold and snow (when I moved back to Iowa for awhile), I missed the warmth of California. My ideal would a cold, hard, snowy Winter--for one month. But I don't think that exists on this planet.

My friend's whole family migrated in Canada and the whole family was rejoicing when they first saw snow. They posted winter photos in their FB pages and would like their friends here in the Philippines to also have a taste of snow through them. But later, they got bored with winter and always wishing they could get even just a little sunshine from the Philippines.

You are right about that. We don't get to many bad winters here in Oregon, but when we do, they are really bad, below zero, or way below freezing. We don't get much snow, however, last year we had enough that lasted a week, and we were snowed in. I was so glad when it finally melted, as I got cabin fever, and when it did melt, I got out and enjoyed myself, and I stocked up on things that I needed at that time. I just hope that it doesn't snow at all this winter for very little.

@salonga I hope we don't either, but only time will tell either way. Here though, we really only have a bad winter once in 5 years, and last winter we had about 8" of snow, and it stayed on the ground for a week. I had to wait until is started melting, before I could get out and do my errands. I was sure anxious to do them too, and I got done what I needed to do in case it got bad again, but thank goodness, it didn't.

@rosekiss yes only time will tell. I myself do have weather woes and that is when rainy days bring in flooding. I am just so worried so every day I am praying to God to spare us from big floods. Thank God, because we have been spared many times from this destruction.

I also feel the same way now . My newest boss , the mall manager told me a story of how a friend of his nearly had his fingers cut because of frost bites and how heavy some winter clothing can be .
That made me say , i don't want to experience winter anymore .

I love all the four seasons we have. But I don't think I could live in places where it snows in winter. So I'm so glad that we don't have snow here.

@salonga we have snow but only in the mountains where we go skiing .. We are very lucky here in Melbourne that we don't get snow.. But when it's cold like down to 5 degrees , you really need to rag up..

@wiLLmaH Yes I would love doing that for a day or two but if I do that every day, I won't get excited anymore and you know very cold weather encourages building of excessive melatonin on our brain so that even if we want to do things, our activity will be lessen.

I think that snow can be very romantic. I also think it can be a pain. I lived in New York State, up in the Catskills (foot of) and was there for six years. I came back down to Florida, and have never looked back. I am from San Diego originally, but have lived all over the U.S. I love the Fall in the north, but I would rather take a trip up to see the beauty and smell the wood smoke than have to haul in wood for the woodstove again. I love Vermont, though.

That is what I specifically thought winter was. It is so romantic but the romance is seemed overpowered by the pains involved when winter becomes bad.

The Danish winters are dark and cold and I would love to live in a tropical country I really don't like the winter months. I wear a big coat, but I still feel cold every day. Show and ice make driving difficult, and sometimes we get stuck in the snow for hours.

Every winter we head to warm and sandy sea side. We don't like snow anymore because neither of us can still ski.

I prefer the summer month. Actually, we have had a fall this year. Weather that is in th 70's and sixty is nice.
