No school! No banks will be open. Post Office? No! A LEGAL holiday. But what is a holiday? A day off from work? YES. For some people, that is. Put a Monday holiday together with a Saturday and Sunday and you have a three-day week-end. You can slip out of town,. You can jet to the beach or mountains. Three whole days of freedom. Have you ever thought about planning your three-day week-ends in advance? Lots of people do and it's a great idea when you think about it. You can look ahead to the entire year and mark those Monday holidays. Set aside a few dollars each week and go. It doesn't have to be an expensive trip. Usually, you have several choices within 50 miles of where you live. You can drive there in an hour and a half. Stay a couple nights in a nice hotel, visit the local sites, eat out a couple times and relax. We do it all the time.

I have planned many three day weekends in the past. Even my christmas vacation as well. I always managed to get the week between christmas and new years off. I always put my vacation in early.

Three day weekends are great! There are lots of things to do when you have three days in a row. Mini vacations are just the break we need sometimes.

Yes, I'm retired now too, but I still like a three-day week-end holiday a few times a year. It's easy to find nice places within about 100 miles of where I live. In Virginia we have the beach and the mountains, not to mention lakes and state parks and historical places and wineries. All within short driving distances.

I love long weekends - but I prefer to stay home on those.
