Here in the Philippines, we prefer to use cash in every transactions and payments. There are only few people who are using credit cards and these are mostly people who owns business or employed people. In our office, almost a small percentage of employees own a credit card. I am not a big fan of credit card; however, I want to try this as this can be helpful during emergency situation. I also motivated myself to have a discipline once I receive the card to avoid excess charges due to shopping. I received an email a few days ago that my credit card application was approved. I am just waiting for the card so I can use this for purchasing gifts. Do you own a credit card? Do you prefer this over cash?

Hi Chiwasaki, We are on the same boat regarding on holding a credit card. Just this year, I received a credit card from BDO, but when I found out that they have big amount of annual fee and knowing I won't use those credit cards anytime soon, I called the bank and decided to just cancel those credit cards they sent me. But then, since I love to travel, I think that having a credit card is unavoidable. Just yesterday, I applied in BPI's credit card. Their annual fee is lower compared to that of the BDO and their credit limit is somewhat low but I don't care. My boyfriend knows that there are some people who stole credit card's information to steal money so as much as possible he does not use his credit card. I agree with him and even I already have a credit card, I won't use it much for safety purposes.

@annierose you can check the new citibank credit card offer. I would like to try that in the future.

I will try to request to have the annual fee waived as citibank does not have annual fee in some of their cards.

Just be cautious in buying with the credit card . If you don't want to be charged with interests , opt to pay them in full when you already have the money .

I haven't been to Philippines, so I dont know that most people there prefer to use cash. Here it is quite common for people to use credit card. Therefore, it is not difficult for people to have more credit cards. Lately there are more digital payment methods occur, we have more options to pay. I like paying by credit card because there are more advantages. First, I don't have to keep a lot of cash and it is safe and convenient. Second, my bank will give me gifts according to my consuming amount. Third, I don't have to exchange money when we travel abroad. Fourth, I can return my money next month and the bank will not charge me extra fees. So you can see why it is popular to use credit card here.

Almost nobody uses cash in our country. It's so quick and easy to use the credit card. Now we have wireless cards, just wave it near the cashier and the bill is paid.

@chiwasaki Europe wants to limit the use of cash to track the expenses, this is to avoid tax evasion.
