I never got around to making chocolate chip cookies yesterday. This morning my plans changed and I went with a chocolate cake. It just came out of the oven now I have to wait 15 minutes before I take it out of the bundt pan. The house smells of chocolate!
The candied yams are ready for the oven so I can get them finished and out of the way. Next will be my stuffing and then I rest.
Oh, the tree is up and lights turned on decorations later or tomorrow. I can't wait until the house is full of red, green and white!
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving one and all.

I only use box mixes for cake, I'm a lazy baker! For chocolate chip cookies I use the recipe on the pack of chips.

I'm hoping to get my tree up this weekend and switch from all that orange fall colors to twinkling lights and red & white Christmas

I took the fall stuff down during the week in preparation for the tree. It looks good with just the lights - I might leave it - but I can't find the remote for the lights.

You don't want to try grits Katerina - candied yams are much better!

@AbbyGreenhill oh my goodness. Very rich sounding indeed. I think of yams as a vegetable, not as a sweet.

Yams/Sweet Potatoes similar
Peel, mix brown sugar and butter
put potatoes and sugar/butter in oven proof dish
bake until potatoes are done (I pre-cook to not quite done)
I added some pineapple chunks just because I had some open
Very rich - you can't eat a lot

@valmnz It is a vegetable but this dish is very common and a necessity at Thanksgiving. Also, in the south sweet potato pie (like pumpkin but with sweet potatoes) is often served instead of pumpkin. Or you can make it with yams.
