Is mail other than bills a cause for celebration?

Food in Japan, no idea what I was eating!

Is mail other than bills a cause for celebration? I think it is! I got a package from my aunt and my gram today full of homemade goodies and some new kitchen towels (they prefer packing things in with useful stuff rather than using wadded up paper or something). I shall have to be very careful and portion what I eat, so as not to go over my carb total (will feel ucky tomorrow if I do). But still yum! This just reminded me that getting mail that is not a bill is a wonderful feeling, but if you don't have grannies and aunties that send treats now and then, fear not! There is a place out there called postcrossing, where you can get and send postcards, I do that some, it's fun getting mail from all over the globe!

Yes, I had the same experience the other day when I received a gift from my Aunt. She is very old and is giving away some of her treasured jewelry pieces. She sent me a large pendant of topaz.

I don't have aunties and grams anymore. My grandmother sent me divinity one year and I had no idea what it was. Had never had it before. I still don't care for it But do you think I said anything to grams?

Oh I LOVE divinity, super sugary though, and somewhat hard to make. Very finicky. and lol, you never tell grams that kind of thing, you pretend and smile. I got the worst best one year, with themed music material, it was HIDEOUS mom said I could just not wear it and take it to grams and wear it a day there every now and then, then I could :"out grow" it... lol

I agree as I love getting letters, cards and parcels. I'm disappointed if no post arrives for me apart from bills of course

Post-crossing sounds fun. Once, of course, everything came by mail and hand-written envelopes were always opened eagerly.

it is, and it's free. it's just a you send one, you earn one being sent to you, etc. you send 5, you end up getting 5. there are little tracking numbers you enter when receiving your mail to show you got it so that person gets credit and can then get one sent to them. it's all very random

@Jessicalynnt It sounds fun. Our postage has gone up a lot lately so I wonder what the cost might be to send to some countries.

I usually get happy when I get mail that isn't bills or flyers. It's a nice change when it isn't one of those things.

This time of year I get lots of catalogs and fun things in the mail. No aunt or granny though, wish I had that.

I sent off my first five postcrossing postcards today they were all to young people, in their 20s. I imagine it will now be quite a while before I receive anything in return?

It depends, once they get and log them you go into the system to get a post card. some people are fast about these things, and some aren't.

It is sad that most of the mail that most of us receive these days is either bills or junk. When you actually do get something personal through the mail it is much more fun than either of the other two lol...

well you might want to check out postcrossing, it's free, you just have to send cards to get cards, increases the incoming positive mail! I have always loved getting real mail, no idea why

O, the last time that I got something from the mail that was worth celebrating of was last May this year. I received my tax refund amounting to $1,200.00.

Very interesting about the postcards and i wish I had family that would send me goodies. My daughter loves to bake and she brings goodies when she visits. We rarely get bills anymore, they are all sent on the computer now.

I like paper copies, as more of a reminder to pay. I'd be ok with a postcard telling me that, lol. anyways, the postcard thing is cool,

I never had a care package of food delivered to me before. Wow this one must be nice. When I did make it back to the states to see my granny she would always cook the best stuff. But as the years passed and she got into her 90s I did a lot of that when I went to visit. She always said my food tasted so much better.
