A True Story: THE POWER OF PRAYER

Our third son was only 7 months in the womb when he was born. He was so tiny and not breathing normally. Doctors told us to expect the worst and that he got just two days to live! My wife and I were so heartbroken that we endlessly wept. She held our baby, sobbing, and her tears dropped on our baby’s chest. She kissed him so lovingly before he handed him to me. I held him so tenderly, kissed his cheeks, and whispered – “We love you so dearly, baby!” Warm tears from my eyes dropped on the cheeks of our dying baby! Our baby's eyes were closed and breathing so hard all day. My wife and I did not close our eyes all night and day. My wife kept praying, sobbing as I bowed my head holding our baby’s hand, whispering prayers, pleading to God to save our dying son. The doctor came early in the morning to check our baby’s heart. “Keep praying and hoping!”, he told us, sadness showed in his eyes. My wife looked at me so sadly and again she cried. I held her hands and assured her our baby will be all right! The second day was almost over and the doctor came again to check our baby’s condition. To our surprise he uttered “HIMALA ! (miracle!) Cheer up, your baby is getting better!” My wife this time wept inconsolably; but I knew she was crying because of new hope and overwhelming joy that enveloped her and me. I wiped off my tears and smiled at the nurse, who was assuring us that our baby was showing sign of surprising recovery. I closed my eyes and kept thanking the Lord Almighty. The second night my wife and I finally were able to rest our tired eyes while the nurse watched our baby. Suddenly, the nurse woke us up in the middle of the night and, smiling, she told us to check our baby’s eyes. Our baby’s eyes were wide open and his hands seemed to be waving as if trying to say “Hi, Mom and Dad, how are you doing?” My wife and I smiled as we lovingly and tenderly held his tiny hands and I whispered - "How are you, son?" After another week in the intensive care unit, our baby started to gain a little weight, breathing normally at last, and drinking his milk. Soon his two-year-old and one-year-old brothers were by his side listening, giggling, and wondering at their little brother’s funny whimperings. My loving sister-in-law who took care of our two older sons for two weeks was so glad that God listened to our prayers. And the day had come that going home with our baby was just fine. The doctors and nurses wished us the best and told us to take good care of our “miracle” son. Our miracle baby happily grew side by side with his two rowdy brothers. He was the skinniest and smallest when they were young. We expected to see him grow healthy but not as big as his older brothers would be. To everyone’s surprise, he grew taller and bigger than his brothers as years went by. Never did we keep secret to him of what he went through when he was a newborn. He, too, believes that he was truly a miracle baby. Now, he got two young lovely kids (shown in the above photo) and a loving wife to cherish and love; making sure they are all happy as their kids grow. My friends, don’t take for granted the power of prayers, tender touch, and warm tears. God, I believe, is always here and there to listen and respond to our prayers. Let me just wipe off some tears before I go. Thank you for reading my true story and wish you the best as days come and go! I love all of you!

He was breathing so hard . . and his eyes were partly opened. We really thought he would not make it. But he did! And look at him in the picture . . he is muscular and stands 5'8 . . but his wife is 5'11' . . she is an Italian-Canadian.

@antonbunot I guess that was only one of your trials. You haven't become a priest because there was a reason for that and God understands.

@antonbunot God does not punish us for our choice of vocation, you say it was your vocation, maybe it just wasn't his choice for you.

I even thought that because I did not pursue my vocation to the priesthood (I studied in the seminary), God was punishing me.

@antonbunot If you write it a little at a time you would produce something of a family heirloom. I suggest you find some easy rhymes and get into the rhythm of it.

LOL . . . No, it is my son in the story, his Italian-Canadian wife, and their son. This picture was taken 2 years ago. They also have a daughter who is one year and 6 months old. I could not find a good picture showing them all.

Look at him now! I can relate, my eldest daughter had a twin who didn't make it (stillborn) and my daughter had 50-50 chance when she was born. I prayed the rosary many times a day. I should write about my experience too..

I believe the only prayer that God don't listen and respond to is when one prays to the Almighty to let him/her win the lottery! . . Just kidding!
