Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the Festive Season

Apologies (to those who’ve noticed) for having been AWOL for a couple of days – Real Life (including cooking a meal for 10 people last night) took over. I hope all of you celebrating the Great Escape had a great Thanksgiving Day, with fabulous food and fellowship.
Like all sensible people, I let my fingers do the walking on Black Friday. For the most part, I just spent my M & S gift voucher that my mother gave me for my birthday back in October. I also bought my husband’s present, and I’ll give you a clue – it wasn’t a onesie! They’re my pet hate right now – everyone’s bum looks big in them! We’ve also just begun buying presents for Son and Daughter.
We had a good evening last night. We invited four recently-retired couples around to help us celebrate growing old disgracefully. I produced a Chilli con Carne and a Chilli con Quorn with baked potatoes and salad, and the other couples brought starters and desserts. Someone brought some of the bubbly stuff (Prosecco, not Shampoo) and we all decided that getting older wasn’t so bad after all!
Anyway, next stop, Christmas. I haven’t even bought cards yet. Perhaps I’ll get round to it – perhaps I won’t bother this year. Who knows? (Well, I do – the guilt ethic will kick in, and I’ll get started!)
If you celebrate it, how ready are you for Christmas?

I don't send cards at all, although I do send emails wishing my nearest a Happy Christmas. Cards are pretty and I suppose there is an image factor since lots of cards represent lots of friends.

I am not even going to worry about Christmas until I get two birthdays out of the way.
My grandson will be 18 in december and my second oldest son has a birthday in december. He is the one who lives in great Britian and has three children.

It is too bad that people don't seem to send cards anymore at Christmas. I too am guilty of that.

I love the idea of growing old "disrespectfully." I am going to use this phrase from now on!

I have only purchased a few Christmas gifts so far, and I haven't even thought yet about decorating! I haven't started on cards yet either, but I did buy them and start making a list of recipients.

@Vivenda I'll be the first to admit that I'm a procrastinator. I've been known to Christmas shop on Christmas Eve! :)
