I May Need To Reconsider My Position

Every now and again I appear on this site and read and comment and generally interact with others.
Occasionally I will decipher some of the electrical signals rushing around my brain and attempt to put them into some form of coherent, and hopefully entertaining, discussion.
These activities give me pleasure. They scratch itches that my day job can't reach. They provide a level of stimulation that communications protocol specifications just can't get anywhere near. That's not to say communications protocol specifications aren't interesting! Some of them are quite a sexy read! Actually I'm lying. They're not! They're tedious to the point of wishing you were having your toenails removed by having rusty kebab skewers hammered underneath them rather than having to understand and implement one!!
Anyhow, I'm beginning to wonder if I should be doing this! Why? Well I'm starting to see an increase in discussions which describe my, and everyone else's, myLot activities as work. My mother often used to say about me, when I was rushing hither and thither from one activity/pastime to another, "If he was told it was work, he wouldn't do it". I'm self-aware enough to realise she was absolutely spot-on! By that I mean she was absolutely correct, not that she was a small tube of a leading brand of domesticated animal flea treatment!! That was my Dad!
Now someone has gone and told me this is work!
Somebody please tell me it isn't!

Nah! It's not work. Some people in countries where the dollar goes a lot further than it does here may try to think of it like that but they are always warned by more seasoned members that they are wrong. It's pure fun and pass-time and that's all it should ever be thought of as, even though it can be gainful.

@owlwings That's what I like so much about this place. I don't need to agonise over getting posts right. In comments and responses I can just be my usual spontaneous, witty (cough), charming (cough, cough), intelligent (cough, splutter, choke) self and the bank still ticks along nicely.

I haven't seen it here but I know this well from bubblews in its glory days. Whole families in Asia gave up their day time jobs to 'work' for bubblews busily copying content from the net and posting it on the site together with lascivious beauties as avatars.

@enlightenedpsych2 I think I would have to spend 72 hours a day, 21 days a week, 156 weeks of the year here to earn anything meaningful!!

I think some people make it work by stressing their earnings or trying to figure out how to do better here. For me though this is not work at all, it's a fun place to be!

Work has nothing to do with earning money, as one or two housewives will tell you. Or househusbands. Or unsuccessful screenwriters. It's just what you regularly do when you'd rather be doing something else.

This is not work. I am not working for the pennies I get here. I am here avoiding work. I should be getting ready for today's mystery shops. I should be chasing down one payment I know is missing. I should be finding more mystery shops to do since I am not getting calls to substitute teach. But I am here - relaxing.

It's only work if it's not enjoyable and it's something you MUST do. You don't have to Mylot, and it doesn't pay the bills.. I call it a hobby with benefits.

There are certain writing sites that could be considered work such as iwriter but certainly not myLot. Work should generate good earnings. We al know myLot is not a place to generate earnings that one can live on.

@WorDazza I only hope not. There is a huge difference though between myLot and BB. There the owners paid no attention to reporting. I used to report regularly but those culprits continued to be there but here Admin is very active and alert. I report here and action is taken immediately.

It depends upon the person doing it. If the money is needed and the only reason for being her, then for that person it is work. If it is fun and a distraction, and the money is only a perk, then it is a hobby.

To me writing is never work and I have had 8 books published. I have been blogging/posting/commenting/discussing--whatever you want to call it since 1999 and it never feels like work.

@Inlemay I will, I won't, it isn't and Hugo the dog thanks you for your blessings. Although he would like me to point out he isn't a mere child! He's 2 and 1/2 years old!!
I've also caved in to your demands. Can't vouch for the quality though!!

Stop placing demands on me. You're making it seem like work.
Very busy at work. My new doggy is placing heavy demands on me at home and I've currently got the mother of all head colds so I've not been at my creative best.
I'll see what I can do today!!

There there now, it's not work if you enjoy it. Don't listen to those dolts, they have no idea what they are talking about.

I never think Mylot is a work, i think it's like a social network. And of course the real thing is you are here, you are sharing your life story, and that's cool. Cuz i think we should know more about things around us. But this way, i will have a great environment to practice English with you guys, even typing in English. hehe. I did think about working online but not for Mylot, Mylot is a place where we enjoy sharing the life story. And sometimes, we find out meanings from those what people share. It will become a habit, like your FB social network habit. You've come back from work, and when you hold your fone up, you may open FB, but now you will open Mylot. The feeling is almost like it with me.
