Eyes In The Sky

Canada

When I was a child we were lucky to have an old friend who lived along the Mohawk River and had acres of land. He let my dad have a garden there while we lived in the city. It was a gift from Uncle Bob who had all the big tools so all dad and mom had to do was take care of the garden plot. They planted, they watered, they pulled weeds and harvested fresh food all summer. My brother was older than I, my sister was a baby and I wasn't very old so we lazed around on a blanket and played. We had toys and books and mother nature. My favorite pass time was watching the sky. The white clouds in the blue sky fascinated me. We would search for interesting shapes. I imagine all children did that when the opportunity was there. As an adult, I still look to the sky on a beautiful day to see what I can find. The photo above is one I took while my husband and I were driving home from a vacation in the south. We had just crossed the border from the USA at Detroit and headed towards Toronto. It was a long boring ride. Until I saw a cloud up ahead that looked like a giant white stingray in the sky with eyes. I took several photos of it from afar and when we got closer I got some photos without power lines. Back then I was using an editing program called PhotoScape that was and maybe still is a wonderful free site to edit your photos. It is not compatible with my Mac so I am still looking for a new editing program. The only thing I changed in this photo was that white line (lip) under the mouth. It was not there and with the editing program I could clone pieces of the white from above to make a that lip. Pretty cool. Eh? Do you still have your eyes on the sky to see what you can find?

Not so much clouds per se, but the sky in general. I like stars. I'm up early enough to catch a glimpse of the sky. I like watching the constellations come and go. Every so often when the moon and clouds cooperate, I get a nice werewolf moon. And I like seeing sunsets and sunrises.

I like all of those too, while camping we lay on the camp bridge over the river and feel the heat in the cement and watch the stars until a car comes and we have to give it space...

It's so nice that you could live in the big garden! Books and mother nature are very good friend of kids. I like to look at the clouds in the sky, and yes, I still look for any interesting shapes. Now that I have children, we like to talk about the "objects" we found in the sky. I always imagine if I can lay down on the cloud, how soft and comfortable it will be. The cloud in the picture is really giant! Thank you for sharing PhotoScape, I will look for it if I want to edit any photo.

@PainsOnSlate I am not good at photo editing, I guess I don't have the patience or interest to do it. My husband likes it. Watching the sky is one of our activities when we are in the car since the children were young, especially traveling for long distance.

@kaka135 PhotoScape is so easy anyone can use it and it is still on line, so much easier than PhotoShop or Corel.

It does really look like white, giant stingray! Nice capture! But I wonder why you have to edit the photo. Is it not better if posted as is?

I edit my photos to make them more interesting, sharper, brighter, I don't edit them all but this one was begging for a lip.

I love to do that too but there is too much light in my neighborhood. My parents house was like that - no light to interfere with skywatching in the country.

@PainsOnSlate I love just laying on the ground and watching the show that goes by. Better than TV.

That's great, I see it now too but only saw the eyes and the stingray before. Very clever..

I agree that this could looks a lot like a stingray. I usually look at the clouds while my husband is driving and I have nothing to do.

That's an amazing photo, even without the editing. However the lip definitely adds to it - a perfect stingray.

That's a great photo and would have been cool to see in person. I look at the clouds some days, but never see anything as distinct as that, even without the editing you did on it.

As a kid, my eyes would often roam to the sky and outdoors. I'd start daydreaming and such. Even now, my eyes will still turn to the sky, and such. I'm not sure why, but it's something I've always done.
