Why don't the kids have winter coats?

I would like to know why some people's children don't have winter coats? How do you send your child to school without a coat? I don't care how broke you are there is no reason why your child shouldn't have a winter coat! Especially when you have money for other garbage that you don't absolutely need it pisses me off. My wife usually takes our son to the bus stop and she came back angry and I see why she is mad with good reason. Yes we smoke cigarettes and if we quit we would have way more money but we have never had cigarettes while our children go without their needs being met. She has told me that there are two families that send their children to school with no coat on and it is ice cold in the mornings but the parents don't seem to care that even a few minutes exposed to the cold can be harmful to the kids.

Depends on how old the kids are. By the time they get to middle school, it's not cool to wear a coat and they won't wear one even if you buy them ten coats. Make them wear it, and they "forget it" at school.

this is true but you can tell by looking at her that she doesn't have much she wears the same couple of pants. she doesn't look like she has much and what little she doesn't doesn't fit well either.

My girls do this so I make them wear one of mine and magically their coats reappear.

" if we quit we would have way more money" Not true--I gave up smoking in 2008 after 60 years of smoking 2-3 packs a day--I am still wondering where is that money today!! Even if parents don't have money to get their kids coats most churches do--many local charities will offer warm clothes for kids. Just a thought--instead of getting Christmas gifts for people who really don't need them why not get those 2 kids coats? Or suggest it to your kids that the whole family instead of gift exchanges give sweaters or coats or whatever to those kids? What a lesson to give children!!

I'm surprised nobody at the school has said anything to her. Ours usually offers to help out any way they can if they think a student's family might be in need. There are so many places that offer free or super cheap coats too. She might want to contact somebody at Operation Warm.

I think the bus driver probably doesn't think it a big deal because they are only a few minutes drive to the school. Also her trailer is only about 100from the bus stop so I can see why the bus driver probably wouldn't make it a big deal there too.

If I saw that I would probably go get some coats and take them to school and have the school give them to the kids. Their parents (if they are small children) could be reported to Family Services for neglect.

Even the bus is cold and being outside at playtime is cold. So what is wrong with these people. At least buy them a sweat shirt and some heavy sweaters. I know my grand kids hate to wear coats per say but my daughter makes sure they have really heavy sweat shirts that they like to wear. Basically this is what they call their winter coat.

we should wear coats not to mention those kids in that cold day. As parents should pay more a attention on their children.there are still more things they should do.

There are no reasons for it because there are plenty of thrift stores around to help out in that situation and even if none, there is always cheap old walmart or target to help out..

Priorities! I remember one lady when I was a kid this guy was my age she had two kids who never had jackets, mittens, and so on. She always smoked, and went out but yet didn't have money to give these kids necessities (mind you it can get as cold as -50C here). We have programs where local churches collect coats, and supplies for free, or even a cheaper price. I can see brand new costing $100 for a pair of snow pants, and $100 for a jacket. But $10.

There are plenty of free coats for people in need. The mother is just a lazy bum if she can't even bother picking one or two free coats for her own kids.

This makes me angry as well. I would make sure my children had coats even if I had to do without. Children are the parents responsibility and should always come first.

that is a very inconsiderate parent, if the child has no winter coats to protect him from the cold.
