Rain, Rain, and More Rain

It rained most of the day yesterday and it’s raining right now. A person would think it was springtime not fifteen days from the first day of winter. The forecast calls for rain all week. We are hoping this rain brings lots of snow to the mountains. Right now, it is, however tomorrow’s high is forecasted to be 54º F (12º C) which may make it too warm to snow in the mountains. After tomorrow it is forecasted to cool down a bit. If it does rain in the mountains the next day’s cool down may being more snow. Snow in the mountains is very important to keep us out of a drought next summer. Last summer was the worst year in Washington state for forest fires. The lack of snow in the mountains contributed to this. The forests became drier quicker leading to an earlier fire season. Although most fires were under control by October, there were some that were still burning inside the controlled areas. So we are all hoping and praying there will be more snow in the mountains this winter. It’s good for the ski areas, too.

Shortly before Christmas we got dumped on with snow. We received a good foot of snow. Then it turned cold. Down to the single digits at night and not getting over 20º F during the day. It stuck around until about the middle of January when it started melting. It was gone but last night snowed about an inch which is melting fairly fast today. It's supposed to warm up to 40º next week.

It's being forecasted that we have a good chance of getting snow for Christmas this year. For me if we have snow around Christmastime that's fine. After that I just soon not see any more snow. But our snow season normally runs from the middle of December to the middle of February.

Certainly hope you get enough snow to ward off a drought

We know all about those dry forest fires out here! Hope that snow comes in for you guys! We are supposedly going to get super wet somewhere during Jan/Feb/March - let's see if that holds true and that maybe we can help with our drought situation!!

In this case, snow is certainly welcome.
