My husband just flipped out!

December 12, 2015 11:57am CST
I was on the computer minding my own business when my husband came in and said, "Ruby has fleas!" She had been up in his chair with him and he noticed a flea on his hand...so he ran around the house so I could see the flea! I was shocked, Ruby is 4 years 8 months old and never had a flea, not one. I didn't panic, I called her vet and asked for suggestions. I was told Nexgard is the best but they were out of it. She gave me the name of a vet that has it and they are open all day Saturday. So off to the next town we went. What a nice place, quite nicer than where we go, we might have to switch. Anyway, we got the Nexgard, I only bought one table, which is good for 30 days. We also bought a spray for the chairs she gets in and the carpet. We have mostly hardwood flooring but we do have two large area rugs, and rugs need to be sprayed. That was a $57 trip, but Ruby is worth it. My husband just sprayed our bedroom, Ruby's bed, and two chairs in the living room, the carpet and now he's keeping her busy outside. She can't come back inside until everything is thoroughly dry. We were told due to the warm weather flea season is still bad, well I guess so since this is a first for us. Let's just hope this works and ..... bugs be gone!

I think that this too warm season is not so good after all, I believe we need a little cold. Good luck for Ruby.

Thanks, she took her pill so hopefully by tomorrow those 'buggers' will be gone. We should have cold weather starting the end of the week.

Was the flea really from Ruby, or was your husband just trying to blame her for his own flea?

I'm allergic to flea bites, living in the tropics it's really flea as in flea here' i think they breed faster, yes the best way is to destroy the breeding grounds, and give the dog a regular bath, there are also a lot of natural remedies on the net that might be less toxic, have not tried it yet, if they work or work faster than the store bought chemicals

Well, she had her pill already and I'm not sure she has a bunch of them, she hardly scratches. So hopefully it will be a quick fix.

it seems late for fleas, but it happens, In a pinch Dawn dishsoap is pet safe and helps kill them too.

If worse comes to worse we can give her a bath, but I think this will take care of it.

Oh goodness, sorry that happened. It reminds me of the dog I had in childhood who got fleas one time and we had to flea bomb the whole house. We had to stay out of the house for some hours before we could come back in.

We got a spray and was told to spray rugs, bedding, etc. They've come a long way in ways to rid homes of fleas.

I can imagine it is very difficult to keep pets completely free of fleas. Luckily fleas aren't a problem for Herc.

We used to wash our dog with (I know this sounds bad, but it worked) Dawn dish detergent followed by a good doggie conditioner. Never had a flea problem.

This is a first, but she will stay on Nexguard for her life now. LOL! This dog was in the pool all summer we used to joke if she had fleas they would drown.

I have a friend who keeps complaining of flea bites. She showed me her legs and it was indeed full of red bug bites and it leaves dark marks that takes so long to disappear.

awww poor Ruby getting fleas. Guess it isn't surprising since we haven't had enough cold weather to freeze those little suckers. Hope the Nexgard works
