Yesterday was a great day for the toy run

Yesterday was the day for the 23 annual Nevada County Food and Toy run. We have had a lot of rain here for the past couple of weeks, it rained Friday, and it is raining today (Sunday.) However, yesterday we got a break in the weather. It was a bit on the cold side for motorcycle riding, but it didn't rain on us. This fantastic local event is a good chance for us to reconnect with old friends, many of whom we only see this one time each year. On the second Saturday of December 1500 to 2000 motorcyclists rumble through the small gold rush town of Nevada City, CA bearing Christmas gifts for the needy. Law enforcement does a wonderful job of crowd control, and it's a joy to see the parents and kids along the route to cheer us on. It feels great knowing that all of the food and toys collected go to local families.

That sounds like a really fun time, and it's helping out a needy cause at the same time! I haven't seen any of our local biker clubs do a toy run, but it seems like every weekend there is a poker run for some charity or another. It's nice to see some of these big, bad, burly bikers show they have a softer side by giving back to the community! I think bikers unjustly get a bad reputation, when most of them are loving, caring people!

There are good and bad, just like everyone else. They have a saying, "When we do good, no one remembers; when we do bad, no one forgets."

I loved that part of the country when I used to go up to Auburn and what a wonderful idea to help the needy. I love all those toys on the bikes.

That is so healthy and sets a stage for others to do the same and all those families will have a merry Christmas that's really outstanding.

We have these runs in Australia too and they must be great fun if you're involved in them. We are nowhere near the runs so haven't actually witnessed one - just seen them on TV.

They are very popular. We have been involved in this one from its beginning. We have watched it grow from a dozen bikes the first year to 2000 or more now.

@norcal That sounds like a great event. It's so nice to see the people are helping the needy families. The families, especially the children must be very happy and grateful for receiving the toys and food.

@kaka135 - One thing I love about this particular toy run is that we get to see the kids who come to get the toys. At other toy runs I have been to, you just drop off a toy, and never see the kids.

Every kid should get a visit from Santa. I remember when my kids were little, sometimes they didn't get much for Christmas, but they always got something. You can't go back to school when everyone is talking about what they got for Christmas, and you didn't get anything!
