Feeling A Little Lost

I've been here for less than 24 hours and feeling a little lost on a few things. I've been used to other forums before for writing but somehow this one is leaving me puzzled. I really hope this works out because I'm an avid writer. I replied to people in my first discussion but it looks like I am replying to myself almost, *laughing out loud.* I can tell that people know how to use the "mentions" and I happened to do that correctly only once. I'm normally really sharp and pick up on forums right away but sure do feel awkward and lost.

You've noticed by now that you have to hover over to respond, like, suggest, tag or even report. It's the same for each individual comment as well. After I respond here you can hit "comment" under what I just wrote and it should auto tag me if I'm not mistaken. Or Auto mention I should say for clarififcation sake.

Thanks, but it seems to be picky on whether or not it adds the auto mention. Does it maybe have something to do whether or not it's my own discussion? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

@CrossingBorders TO be quite honest that could be it. I don't know for sure though.

@CrossingBorders The 'auto mention' only works when you are commenting on a comment. This is because there are only two levels of indent: Discussion topic Response Comment Any comment made to a response is assumed to be a reply to that response but any comment on a comment needs to be a reply to the person who made the comment, so gets an 'auto mention'. You can, of course, 'mention' a user anywhere (it is best to select, copy and paste the username but as usernames are hyperlinks to the user's profile, you have to be careful not to trigger the link when selecting the user name!)

Hello and welcome to mylot. I think you have spent only one day here and you wish to acquaint yourself with all the features of this site at one go. It will take some time to settle down here. You should know - How to start a new discussion? How to respond to a discussion? How to post comments on the responses received in response to your discussion? How to make mention and post counter comments? How to check notifications? How to add friends/or how to follow a fellow mylotter? you should know answers to the above questions to acquaint yourself with this site. If you have any doubt, you could ask us. It is a user friendly site and we are hopeful that you would get used to it very soon.

@dpk262006 The first issue I had was the mentions but someone clarified that for me already. I had no problem with the rest on your list.

I can understand how you feel,, as when I came back after a wo year hiatus, it was totally differnet then it was when I was here before. I had problems at first migrating the site, but I finally did figure it out. It does seem daunting at first, but in time you will get it figured out. It really isn't that hard, just confusing more than anyting. Just keep commenting back to the responses and comments you recieve, and you are on your way to earning.

@CrossingBorders I am gad to know that you finally figured it all out. I didn't figure it out right away either, and when I finally did, then I knew exactly what to do.

Relax, this is not some academic forum. People here are just talking about their feelings and experiences of everyday life, probably not so serious as you expected.

I sometimes disagree or adapt I suppose @CrossingBorders to what kind of forum this forum is other than make money, make friends and also have fun. If you can make it something you want specific I say go for it. Not too interested in what is a comment or a response myself but there is no denying some machine programming is involved here. welcome by the way

Welcome. By now you would have read Owlwings guide and the comments so hopefully it's all making a bit more sense. It will take a little while to feel at home perhaps but that's not really a big deal. It's a nice friendly site.
