Cherry Blossom Time

We are sitting in our friends' house looking out of the windows at their garden and into their neighbour's garden. Their garden is looking a bit sad - which is not unexpected at this time of year in Europe.
But just beyond the fence and into the neighbour's garden we can see a spectacular display of cherry blossom. It's December for goodness sake. This really shouldn't be happening.
Back home in our garden all our spring bulbs started growing a few weeks ago. Mother nature is well and truly confused this year by the unseasonably mild weather. I can't help wondering what's going to happen when the cold finally comes. I'd guess the cherry tree owner won't be getting any cherries and I don't know if we'll lose all the bulbs if they grow too far too soon.
It's not unusual in the UK to spot the odd snow drop flower around Christmas time, maybe a small primrose or two but this year the gardens are going crazy.

I fear that the weather will soon turn nasty and cold and no one will be prepared for it. It's not warm enough here for things to mistakenly be growing, but it's been warmer than the last few winters. Although it was very much like this about 5 winters ago, the first year I lived in this house. I am trying to remember if it got cold suddenly after that. I know it did last year.

I worry when the plants do that, when it does hard freeze does the late fake fall/spring/whatever this is hurt them?

Hard to believe in such greatness when it becomes your garden it's nice to see a garden grow.

Same here. My yellow bell bushes are blooming and they usually bloom in the early Spring. they are confused by our mild weather.

You are so right. Nature is certainly confused. It's happening in our garden too. Yesterday it rained here - so unusual.

Not at all. It's because the weather is so warm that the trees think it is spring.

That could be economically terrible if they lose their crop.

The daffs are out too can you believe that in December. The only worrying thing is if winter does strike there will be a terrible harvest next year.

Mother nature will presumably figure it out sooner or later.

I think you are right, they won't be getting any cherries this year. I hate when that happens. We had it happen one year with our peach tree. No peaches that year.
