Hunting for a Manger

Greece
December 20, 2015 2:53pm CST
After church today I met up with a woman and a young boy. She asked where the nativity scene was. I said there wasn't one - our 'church' meets in a school gym, we have no premises of our own. I had no idea where she would find one either which was a pity. She said she wanted her grandson to know what Christmas was about. I hope she found a church somewhere today that had a manger scene. The shop windows used to have something once upon a time and most of the churches had something even if it was quite small. I imagine that this little boy's school did not have a nativity play either. Do schools still do nativity plays?

Most churches have a Nativity scene but it is not allowed in the public school system.

It's too bad that this has been banned.

Southern Switzerland is Roman Catholic, yes we have Nativity scenes in the Churches and public places.

And public places? That happens much less in England now, the fear of causing offence to 'incomers' has gone a step too far.

@41CombedaleRoad Our Major has decided that we have traditions and we show them. People are not obliged to visit or to celebrate with us, but they are guests and they have to respect our "home".

My grandson is out of grade school now so I don't know what they are doing. So many people get so stinky about such things now days.

Religion has been taken out of most things it seems. Wouldn't you think though she could teach him what it is about w/o seeing a nativity scene? Especially if it is part of her belief system-

I'm not sure if the schools in our area do nativity plays. With so many people getting offended by religious things, that may have something to do with it.

Some of our schools have less Christians than other denominations so they do not have nativity scenes. Shops don't often have them either but most churches do.

That is good to hear, traditions should be kept especially Christian ones that give so much pleasure to others.
