Bomb threat on Flight from Mauritius.

Earlier today we heard of a plane being diverted which was en route from the Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean to Paris. It was diverted to Nairobi airport as someone had found what could have been a bomb in one of the toilets on the plane. The plane was carrying 473 passengers and crew. The passengers were not initially told why they were making an unscheduled landing at Nairobi but were told it was for technical reasons. The plane landed safely and all passengers were evacuated and the bomb squad went onto the plane to investigate. They found what was a cardboard box with a kitchen type counter on it. It appears that it had been put in the toilet after the plane had taken off as it was not discovered on pre take off checks. That means either one of the passengers or crew must have planted it. I hope they have finger printed every single person on that plane and there are finger prints on the hoax bomb. Once the culprit has been discovered I hope that they are put in prison and the key thrown away! As you are aware France is on high alert still after what recently happened in Paris. The idiot who has done this is not funny at all. They need to be taught a lesson and hopefully a very long prison sentence will be a deterrent to other idiots.

Maybe it was "dry run" to see what they could get on the plane. Have the caught the culprit yet?

They arrested a retired policeman but have released him. Apparently there are four people who they suspect may have been involved. I do not know anything else as they have not charged anyone yet.

Absolutely not to mention the cost. Landing fees another plane had to be sent out to Mombassa, all the passengers had to be put up in a hotel for the night. Feeding the passengers. The inconvenience to staff both flight crew and ground staff at the airport not to mention the police time and bomb squad. It is endless the amount of money and inconvenience it has caused.

@garymarsh6 True, These kind of incidents are repeatedly increasing in modern times . Strict and trained security system should be placed to control this.

Yes it is dreadful to put others lives at risk even though it was a bomb hoax.

What ridiculousness. I did not hear about it, as I rarely watch the news any more. It is too depressing.

I suppose some one thought that was funny! It tells me that security is still not tight enough in airports. I really don't think any of the crew would do something like this. I hope they find out who it was, put them in jail and throw away the key!

Some stupid idiotic person. It is not funny especially in the wake of the Pan Am flight blown up over Scotland years ago and more recently the Russian airliner that came down over the Sinai.

Since it was an actual bomb then it does not constitute a terrorist act but an outrageous stunt by someone with a twisted sense of humour. This has to be treated as a serious offence because the current situation is bad enough without that kind of nonsense.

It seems we cannot trust anyone any more. I can sure understand why letting immigrants into the different countries has become such a scary situation. We must find some way of safe guarding transport and our families.

I agree that this is not funny at all and I hope they are caught and spend quite a long time in jail. With everything that is going on in the world, this is just plain stupid.

@boiboing Yes security will be a bit tighter now I expect which is not a bad thing! People become too complacent and complacency is just what lets things slip through the net.
