My mother and her creative food 'substitutions'. - or why I don't think anyone will want to steal my sausage rolls

Today is my sister's birthday and she and our mother spent the day baking for Christmas. This seems to be a neo-tradition that the two of them invented the last few years. They will have been making cheese straws (my Mum's cheese straws are prize-winners), mince pies (for the non-Anglos, that's a pie with a sweet dried fruit filling) and sausage rolls. Normally Mum knocks out a few vegetarian sausage rolls for me and 'proper' ones for everybody else. She's a bit of a traditionalist and still uses some rather nasty stuff called 'Sosmix' which has been around since I was a kid. This year, according to my sister, I shouldn't get my hopes up too much. Apparently she couldn't find the veggie sausage mix and so she improvised with a packet of falafel mix. (Falafels are Middle Eastern chick-pea balls and tend to be rather dry). Now I quite like falafels - now and then. But falafel mix stuffed into a pastry roll? Well it sounds pretty dreadful. My sister just advised that I make sure I have "plenty of fluids" to wash them down.
