A bit of last minute shopping

I have booked my car in for an MOT today - for non Anglos, that's the annual check up for your car. It's going to a garage in the centre of town which means I'm going to drop it off and then head to the shops for a bit of frantic last minute shopping. Up to now I have pretty much avoided the shops. I buy almost everything online and my husband goes out and buys his present then tells me what I owe him. But I need a few small presents for him and I'll run round like a mad woman and see what I can find. For some bizarre reason he wants a new dressing gown (no, I have no idea what that's called in other countries, maybe a housecoat? It's the thing you wear over your PJs when it's cold) and I'm sure I can find a few other bits and bobs. I shall probably buy him something 'manly' for the kitchen - a gadget or a good heavy pan. I'd like him to bin the wok I've had since before we were married. But mostly I shall just drift about and see if inspiration strikes.

I guess here we call that a robe. No one in this house wears PJ's. No car inspection in this state, we had enough of that when we lived up north.

@boiboing They don't. We see cars driving 80 mph w/o doors or hoods...it's nuts. But there really aren't as many rattletraps here as we thought there would be.

@boiboing That's fine, we have insurance so not to worry. And, according to our insurance company, where we live we have more chance of getting into accident with a deer than a vehicle and deer don't carry insurance. That's one reason our rates are high.

@AbbyGreenhill You don't want to get in an accident with one of those and most likely they won't have insurance.

You should get him a silk paisley dressing gown with matching cravat, pipe and slippers.

Contrary to your assumptions I am not married to Noel Coward.

Housecoat or Robe is what we Americans say. Not sure what other countries might call it. Hope you can find all that you need, better way to spend time than having to wait while the inspection is done for sure.

Yes, I got a lot done in about 90 minutes and the car passed its test.

We had our annual check last month, at least we avoided the month of December. I like to wear a dressing gown (long) in the evening to watch the TV, it's hard to find something pretty in our days.

To be honest, he won't be too worried about it being pretty. But the challenge was to find one that wasn't like the two he already has. I have no idea why he wanted a new one.

Ouch, a car MOT and Christmas shopping. . . That could be quite heavy on the back pocket ;)

It's a company car so that bit was painless.
