Days to Christmas? Yes but that is not what this is about. Cents to reach payout? Yes, also, but that is not the topic here either. It's about my teeth. My two front teeth. The ones right in the middle when I smile. They are about to fall out I had 9 teeth removed almost two years ago and decided to leave the rest alone and then, when the last two were wobbly, I would see about having the top ones all replaced together. That will be the first thing on my 'to do' list for next year - and it will be expensive The national health system here provides a cheap set of false teeth but I am thinking to have the front ones, the ones that show when I smile, as fitted permanent ones. There is only one thing bothering me more than the expense: the dentist Have you got all of yours or are some of them false too?

I don't have all of mine any longer but I don't have any falsies. I hate dentists (always have done, ever since I was given gas and, coming out from it, saw my dentist as a pink-faced, smiling pig!) To be honest, I barely have any 'bite' left, so I have been thinking about having my mouth sorted out but the NHS sets of falsies are pretty appalling and to have a good set made would probably only be possible if I won the lottery. I'm building up a good store of soup recipes.

My fear of the dentist is the main cause of them being removed in the past. I have almost all of them at the bottom but none at the top on the left so I am a slow eater. I can't bite on an apple (or similar) for many years either. NHS replacements are lousy here too ao I am thinking of saving for the top middle four and having them as permanent teeth but done privately. It will cost a lot but as I never play the lottery and the only alternative would be asking for donations, I will just save every bit that I can and buy nothing extra until I have paid for them. In January I will be fixing an appointment for a quote

I still have almost all of the ones at the bottom but, without the top ones, it is impossible to bite - and anything like corn on the cob, apples and nuts are off the menu now

@AbbyGreenhill I need the courage, which I am gradually raking up, to get to the dentist. That is more of a problem than finding the funds to pay for them

I hate dentists, but my dentist is wonderful. He has a twisted sense of humor like I do, and so does his dental assistant, so we get along wonderfully. That helps, especially when I am so nervous about dental work. Besides, I tell him that if he hurts me, then I will just bite his finger off when he is least expecting it.

The first dentist that I went to cut my tongue (through no fault of his own I should add) before I had a chance to tell him something like that. He told me that he would be my dentist only if I would collaborate I went for many years until he started doing expensive things and then I had to stop going

@mysdianait Oh no, if he had cut my tongue, I don't think that I would have gone back to him.

My husband just had all of his teeth removed to get dentures put in. It was painful for him and a very long process. I hope yours goes faster and smoother, and less painful. I need mine done too but I am too scared so I can't go through with it.

I am always scared when I have to have anything done to my teeth. I have hardly any left at at the top now so hopefully it won't be too painful though I dread the thought of going Then there is the cost too. It is so expensive here

I'm lucky in that I still have all of my front teeth, but am missing a few at the back. Good luck in getting some new ones.

Good luck with this Diane. I know how you feel about the dentist. I am so glad I no longer have that problem. All my teeth are now fake. Despite all the discomfort and getting used to new teeth I am happy as a lark knowing I will NEVER have tooth pain again. Have a Merry Christmas and you'll get through this.

Yes I can see that the eventual outcome will indeed be no more pain or problems but the path to that result is long and scary. I have to go down it though so in the new year I will set off and get an appointment and quotes and try to pluck up as much courage as I can Thank you and I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas too!

Is this actually possible? I know people who have false teeth individually set into the gums, but as far as I know this should be done at the time when the real ones are extracted. The principle is that the gum is still full and will encapsulate the inserted tooth as it heals, whereas after 2 years your gum will have receded and will be insufficient to set around the tooth. I may be mistaken about this, but it seems quite logical to me.

@mysdianait That sounds perfectly reasonable because the overlapping tissue from the two which are still there will be sufficient to provide support on either side for an extra tooth.

The two in the middle at the top in the front are still there and, I am told, can be removed before they fall and four permanent ones (one on each side too) can be inserted. I hope it is possible and I also hope it is neither too expensive or too painful either and I will know more next month.

@Asylum Hopefully yes it will. I am not bothered about all of the others being permanent but those are important as they are on view when I speak and when I smile.

I don't like dentists as well, but sometimes I just have to visit them. I had my three wisdom teeth removed, and the rest are still there. Hope you'll get yours done soon next year.

@mysdianait I didn't know this happens in Europe. I suppose many people will go for this approach, as they can pay lesser.

Lucky you that you still have yours I still have one wisdom tooth at the top but it is under the gum and serving no purpose at all. I will fix an appointment for January and get the ball rolling so that I will know the exact cost. Guess I will spend on nothing else next year

I have had 3 root canals, one with a post-not sure if those are considered real teeth or not. If they're considered fake teeth, I have 21 (well, 20, but I'll explain that in a moment); if they're still considered real, I have 24 (23). I currently have two teeth with broken fillings that require root canals-and I possibly need a bridge. $5800 worth of work....and the dental office doesn't want to start until I get a 'deep cleaning', to the tune of $500! My insurance company is balking at covering the deep cleaning-they've denied it 3x already, saying my dentist needs to send paperwork that the procedure is 'medically necessary'. I'm a diabetic, and right now, my mouth hurts so bad, I can't eat on one side of my mouth-and the other side has broken teeth. See where this is going? Yeah....I hate the dentist too-and we don't have national healthcare here....

My biggest stress is the dentist! I have almost passed out more than once while my teeth were being dealt with in the past When you are older you will only be able to eat soups if you don't have at least some decent teeth

I remember when you had your 9 teeth removed, you wrote a post on B. (big girls don't cry - ??). I only miss two wisdom teeth, all the others are healthy. I also fear the dentist.

Gosh what a great memory that you have! That was indeed the title! It will be two years already next April and now I must wait no longer to have them put right. My fear and the cost is what has made me wait so long but if I lose the remaining two then I will not be able to eat or speak

@mysdianait The dentist is a serious problem, this is the only thing not covered by Swiss Medical Insurance. My husband had to cover the four front upper teeth, it's pretty expensive.
