A strange request for Christmas

Unexpectedly I had to spend the whole day with my grandson today. Everyone else - his parents and the other grandparents - had last minute stuff to do today so, as I was the only one free, and as he woke up with a really high temperature and couldn't go out, it was me who was baby-sitter. This sadly is the third Christmas in a row that he passes it with a fever. I hope next week he is well again as he should have a couple of days with me and as there are lots of events taking place we will have lots to do if he is fit. Just now I got a call from my son and, as he knows I am preparing some of the food for lunch tomorrow (we all do something) he added a last minute request for - guess what! He wants Yorkshire pudding He was born here but when he was young I made it often and he loves it but it is definitely not something that is usually on the table for Christmas lunch here in Italy. But it will be on ours this year for sure I take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and merry Christmas with your loved ones (if you can be) and a thought for those who sadly will not be with their families because they have to work or are sick or are hostage in some horrid situation. I will not be around until my evening tomorrow but then will be spending the weekend here

No problem my friend. I find it difficult to keep up too as there is so much going on even though they are called 'holidays. Yes Christmas was quiet with, as usual, too much food- I hope all was well wth you in Milan, though I hear that there is a terrible problem with the smog there

@mysdianait Yes, the air is very bad, if you could see our car after a day parked outside in Milan, it's horrible what they breath there.

Awww - I hope your grandson feels better! It's that "time of year" when colds and flus go around - we had a bit of it ourselves. So please do take care of yourself too! I probably won't be here for the most part tomorrow either. Merry Christmas my friend - enjoy the family fun and food - and for sure your son will delight in the Yorkshire pudding!

@much2say Yes he was almost as fit as a fiddle today and I'm sorry that yours were not feeling well. Are they better today? Yes Santa is in the same category as mothers are. Always fit and always on time too

@mysdianait Merry Christmas hugs to you! Well I'm glad your grandson was better later in the day! My oldest ended up with a head and tummy ache - and my son had a cough . . . no fun when the little ones get sick (and somehow Santa manages to never get sick while visiting all these households which I'm sure have sickie germs - ha ha).

Thanks Big G, he didn't asked for Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, it said it is sometimes served with beef and this is what made me dislike. You might have better options for your son and make him happy. As for your Grandson, his fever during festival/holidays is so sad thing. Time to enjoy should not be something like time in bed. He might enjoy Holidays later.

My son doesn't eat meat but he did enjoy the Yorkshire pudding with some savoury vegetable dish which I also made. My grandson was much better though not his usual bubbly self yesterday and hopefully today it will be a thing of the past.

I am sorry about your grandson being ill. I think it is neat that you can honor the request for yorkshire pudding. Hubby wants to make Cornish pasties and we went out long enough to get rutabagas (swedes) to use for it. I will make up the pastry for him tonight.

Oh swedes! Those are one of the few vegetables that I really miss. We cannot get them here and no-one (except my English firiends here) know what they are. I love them and brought one back every time I wento UK. They are heavy and I could never bring more than a couple each time. I will make him one as, to have asked for it for Christmas, he must be craving for it Hopefully my grandson will mend quickly and enjoy Christmas too Merry Christmas to you and your family

@gardengerty When we visit Canada we seek out pasties. Yum. I make pot pies and have made pasties. Does your pastry have butter in it or is it all shortening or lard?

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas MysD. The request from your son made me recall my late granny. She would often make me some custards with all the fruits and ingredients I loved. Faint memories now, but it is always great remembering her. My parents are ill at the moment - dental issues amongst others. Hope that I can get some time today to meet them. Not that I havent been with them during the past 3-4 days, but as today is Christmas - a festive day - I would want to spend some time with them during the late afternoon or evening.

@mysdianait I am glad that your grandson is feeling better and I do pray he would be all well to enjoy and welcome the new year. My parents came in on 25th as it was colder during the evening and night. And they did not want their grand daughter to travel to them in the cold. Evening was all good and busy here at my place. Oh, I havent yet posted about our new family member. Will do it on Monday
