Driveway Cleared

I went out as soon as I heard the snow blower and asked him if he would help us out so we could get the car in the driveway. He did it, and though I offered to pay him, he wouldn't take anything for it. So the car is in the driveway and everything is good. We're not going anywhere today. My son said we got 18 inches of snow. I need to verify that total. How are things with you and the storm? Thanks for reading

I've cleaned my car off once today, and I'll have to do it again before it gets dark. It's been snowing lightly all day, so I'm sure there are another few inches out there on top of what we already got overnight. Living here will be really challenging from the viewpoint of snow removal. I'm not clear yet on the protocol, so I'll have to make som inquiries. I've heard that we should wait out a storm and move our cars by 9 a.m. once it stops. I've also been watching other people move their cars around before the storm ends. So I'm not sure what to do yet. This is enough to make me start hoping for spring now!

We need to have the snow shoveled or snow blown within 12 hours of the end of the storm. Cars cannot be parked on the street overnight. They will be ticketed. The snow plows need to get through.

@just4him This is senior housing, and I'm still not clear on the rules. Everyone seems to do something different. We're supposed to move our cars to plowed space at some point so they clear the rest of it. With these long drawn-out storms, though, it's hard to know what to do.

@Raelove I would think they would tell you what you're supposed to do in storms of this nature.

No storm in my part, thankfully! However I read them, in the USA were under "the scourge" of bad weather, and even violently! Take care.

Very true we have had a lot of snow the last couple fo days and it is still snowing now, supposed to receive another foot of snow and they are telling people to stay off the streets if it is not necessary to be out. @alberello75

@Marcyaz @just4him Here in Italy, on the Alps, maybe it was a little snow on Mont Blanc? (altitude over 4000 meters). Hopefully ..

Nonetheless 18 inches is a lot of snow, about 17.5 too much.

I verified the total and we got 13.2 inches. I couldn't deal with only half an inch of snow. When my son told me 18 inches I had a huge grin on my face and had we been outside I'm sure I would have gotten a snowball in the face.

Wow, what a storm. We have had here is a lot of rain. It did clear out for awhile this afternoon but more should move in overnight through Thursday. I wish it would turn cold and stay cold. Our daffodils are out and blooming because it has been unseasonably warm. Have a blessed evening

They're a few months too early. I'm hoping it's going to stay cold for us now too. It would be a blessing.

We did not really get much snow or even very much ice. It was still enough for some people to get themselves into trouble.

It doesn't take much snow or ice for people to get in trouble.

@GardenGerty to think the snow and ice is just water and causes us so much trouble.

@just4him It doesn't take much snow or ice and people can get stuck or end up in a ditch.

What was it like to move from the Philippines to places where there is snow in winter? What was your first winter like?

@LadyDuck I'm sorry I thought you had been there. My mistake. I know you've said you have been to a lot of places, but Switzerland wasn't your birth home. I'm so sorry I got that all wrong.

I am too. It's a sign we've finally entered into winter. Cold and frigid will be the temps until spring.

@celticeagle Ah, but I wait all year for winter. It's my favorite time of year, so I'll wait a couple months before I think spring.

Good news! We have less than an inch of the wet snow but I am hoping it will melt today and tomorrow (with the positive temperatures we are expecting), otherwise it will be a nightmare to remove.

Yes it was a good thing, though with as much snow as we got I think they were looking for real problems not making them.

Is this an unusually snowy winter Valerie, or just business as usual? It seems I've been reading so many posts from Northern Hemisphere folks about strange weather.

Yes. We normally have snow long before now, and usually not in such huge amounts. Last year the northeast got hammered and that was unusual too. Now I guess it's our turn. Though I wonder if we're going to get much more. It's been strange weather for several months now. Especially with tornadoes that happened in Texas - that never happens this time of year. Happy New Year.

So far so good here but I'm ready for any amount of snow. I traded my snow blower for a flame thrower. I may have to replace a few shrubs in the Spring though.
