I have been discovered!!!

My plans were to either do a lot on myLot or to read a magazine and snooze. However, I got discovered today. A group of adult disabled clients from the place I used to work had Library today. Staff that brought them was a good friend. I spent a lot of time visiting with them and talking about my move and just shooting the breeze. As they left a man that had attended church with me about ten years ago came over to make conversation. I am not getting a lot done, OR a nap. However it was good to catch up on stuff and get some hugs and some visiting with the former clients. It has been a good day. I will probably come back to town tomorrow, as I have a doctor appointment scheduled. I get the disc from our Christmas pictures today before we leave town here. It has been a pretty good day. I miss the job, but it is not practical for me to do that work now.

It is nice to run into old friends and workmates. Would it be practical to be on a call in list and work occasionally? We always had a list like that when I worked with disabled adults. I enjoy substitute teaching but am really glad I don't have to work full time any more.

@paigea If I could design the perfect job for next year, for me, it would be to get on the bus here in town as a monitor or aide, and ride to school then work in a classroom with special needs students during the day and ride the bus back home. I like school hours and activities because they cannot eat you alive.

I say yes too easily. I have worked at two agencies that I will not go back to. There is a third agency in town and I could consider that one. I was hired for seventeen hours per week once and ended up working 65 hrs. per week.

@GardenGerty Yikes! That sounds like too much! That can't happen with school hours at least.

@GardenGerty That is so true I miss the residents from the places I worked but not so much the work as management often tries to get away with as few staff as they possibly can

I used to work with seniors, and loved their company and their stories. Sounds like you had a nice day.

Not all of these are senior aged, but they are adult mentally handicapped. I have also held a number of jobs in nursing homes. It is great what you can learn and share with them.

One of them basically has no family so the hours I spent as his staff made us pretty close. He liked my husband a lot as well.

I actually worked for this company twice. At one time I held a middle management position. I love the work, but the management part stinks a lot of the time.

@fishtiger58 This is why second shift in the homes was always nice. Less interference, more activities if the clients wanted, otherwise, stay home and visit, eat and watch television.

@GardenGerty They usually do. I worked for the disabled for the State of Illinois. If all I had to deal with were the residents it would have been a piece of cake. However management were idiots. My husband being the more patient of the two of us worked there for 37 years before retiring almost 2 years ago. I lasted there 12 years.

@trivia79 I did some for college but not for high school. I did not feel I had much in common there.

I have been home so many years now, that I could not handle a job. It would just be too much on me.

I am beginning to be that way. I would not mind just a very few hours but the need is huge where I have worked before and it is too much for me.
