A near disaster for dinner tonight.

I offered to make some broccoli and stilton soup for dinner this evening but my wife complained that when I make it I put far too much pepper in it. Hmm I was miffed at the criticism of my culinary skills. I chopped the broccoli and an onion put it in the pot. When I went to add salt half of the tub fell into the pan. I had to quickly rescue it by rinsing all the salt off and then adding no more. I cooked it pepperless as she did not want pepper but then added it to my bowl after I had made it. Once it was cooked I crumbled the Stilton Cheese into the soup and whizzed it with a hand blender so that it was all mixed up and then added some double cream. We had it with some beautiful crusty bread. I am glad I made the soup this evening as it has turned slightly colder this evening. It is warm and certainly filling and probably a zillion calories with the cream and the cheese. It is quite filling so is therefore quite substantial. Time for a coffee now prior to going to bed. I hope you have all had a pleasant day today.

I'm glad it turned out well in the end. If I inadvertently put too much salt in something like that, I put a peeled potato in and that seems to soak it up.

No not these days but I do take a turn cooking. I used to cook every day when I was younger and we worked opposite shifts but not now. Happy New Year to you and Mike. I hope you have a wonderful time and next year is an even better year for you,

ahhh you managed to wash off the salt, that was lucky, sometimes it just has to go to the trash. Broccoli must have lots of pepper. mmmm maybe you do dash too much,

I admit I am rather heavy handed with it. it is a nice feeling at it hits the back of your throat and you can feel the warmth of the pepper.

It's so darn damp and dismal here that it's a perfect soup day

I am glad you rescued your soup. Like Jabo, I would use a potato, too. Maybe 5 in your case. Lol!

It sounds very familiar to the broccoli and cheese soup we make here. I love it and it so satisfying on a cold night.

I made a large pot of chilli. No cooking disasters tonight. I guess I got that out of my system on Christmas Day.
