Lost in a lost city

Have you ever been to a city that is so big the inhabitants do not know where they are? I drove in a city yesterday that I had never been to. The streets were flowered with construction. Most of the streets were one way. So we came into the city on a one way street and I had to ask to find a street that went in the opposite direction. You would think it would be easy to find. The next street should be parallel and go back the way you came. That was not the case. I finally stopped and asked. First, I had to find someone that spoke the native tongue which was no small feat in this town. Then after finding a person or two, no one knew how to leave. Now I know why this town is so large. No one knows where to go in order to leave or how to get there. Have you ever been to a city like this?

You made me smile. As I finished reading your post, I thought you were going to say it was a big city because people don't know how to get out... I have often been lost in big cities but today GPS in our cars will tell us where to go. Very clever, Happy New Year

I was driving my dad's vehicle. He doesn't believe in GPS because it takes the driver's attention away from the road. I had to laugh. After asking everyone in this city, I decided to just pull over and use my phone. Thank God for cell phones. I don't know what anyone would do without technology since they obviously do not know where they are. I even asked someone which way north was because the son had disappeared and you would think if someone lived in that place they would certainly know where the sun rose and set at in the sky. Did technology replace common sense? Well that is certainly a question for another discussion. Happy New Year.

@mommaj That is hilarious. I don't live in a big city but I can see the sun rise and set, I probably coud see it in the city too. Loved your story!

@PainsOnSlate Thanks so much. I don't think it was because they don't see it, I think it is because they don't pay attention to it. We all take something for granted and let's face it, if it is always hot where you are, you probably wouldn't pay attention to the sun unless you had an unusually cold dreary day.

I think the town is badly planned, not that it is very big. There are many big cities in the world, and these are very well planned for people like you who can get lost at home.

That's why I live in a cave. It's only one room and open. There are no directions and I can't go far. We were in downtown Miami. The streets were all one way. It wasn't like you could go around the block and go back the other way. You had to go several streets over or stay on the street you were on until you circled back.
