Involuntary Manslaughter for Pro-Lifers Who Miscarry?

United States
December 31, 2015 4:21pm CST
"If pro-lifers believe abortion is murder, shouldn't pro-lifers who miscarry be charged with involuntary manslaughter?", asked the T-Rex... apparently. I came across this on Facebook. Does this make sense to you or does it sound ridiculous? What are your views?

That is sick as most who miscarry deal with grief and it is often not known the reason.

It is worse than ridiculous, it is meant to ridicule people whose main concern is saving the life of an unborn human being. Perhaps some do not believe an unborn child is human or a person whose life matters, but pro-lifers are convinced that the baby is a person, a helpless human who is being killed. I find it reprehensible to mock anyone whose intentions are based on their conscience towards preserving life.

That is ridiculous, a miscarriage is not something any pregnant woman want to have. I had 2 miscarriages and I was devestated.

Heh. It's a good argument, but I don't think it's going to change anyone's mind.

@Angelee_27 Made me stop and think, too. There has to be some logical fallacy in there, but I can't find it.

It's a good argument. If you're going to call voluntary termination of a pregnancy murder, then miscarriage does pretty much equate to involuntary manslaughter. And sadly, there are states that now have laws that will charge a woman with a felony for something like testing positive for THC in the first trimester (when the woman may not even know she's pregnant.) The thing is, fetal endangerment laws were never meant to be used to pursue a pregnant woman herself: they were intended to protect her and her unborn baby from outside harm.

That's stupid. Miscarriage is not voluntary, much less something someone wants to do ;(

It sounds ridiculous. About 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and usually there is no known reason.
