Memories From The Years Gone By

One of my memories that I really like is the one of my "North Star Running Shoes". It was in the late 70's at the time and I had decided to try my hand, or should i say my feet at running. I had never done such a thing before and let me tell you that it wasn't easy at the beginning. But fortunately, the North Star shoes had come onto the market and I bought my first pair. The were white with 2 blue stripes on each side. My feet fell in love with those kinds of shoes and to the present days I am still in love with running shoes. I did end up getting better at running and loved every minute of it until later on I hurt my back and had to stop. I do miss the "highs" I used to get from running. I am including a link to the kind of shoes that I fell for in the 70's.
If you were North Stars you were cool. However, if you wore Gamma Running Shoes you were da bomb.

I never was much for running, but do enjoy a good brisk walk. Those shoes sound comfortable

Compared to the regular canvas shoes, they were "paradise".

Too bad that you can't remember the kind of shoes that you used to wear.

@enlightenedpsych2 I have so many health issues. Asthma is only one, and exertion seems to make it worse.

I had a heart murmur and my Mom was always telling me not to get too excited. Later on when I was on my own I ask my doctor and he said I could do a lot more things that what my Mom told me I could do. It was a liberation.

My son is hooked on sneakers and collects Nikes. He knows absolutely everything there is to know about them.

@marlina Yes I loved those shoes. Hard to find those kind of shoes anymore. I hate all that shiny colorful type shoes they have now.

The "shoe of the day" that I remember the most from my younger days was the Nike, the swoosh caught my eye and I still like a good pair of Nikes as I find them comfortable.

I don't think that I ever owned a Nike pair of shoes, I had North Star, Adidas and New Balance and a few other "non brand name" over the years.

I have always liked shoes that allow me to bent my foot, I dislike a rigid sole. I use Superga shoes for running.

I was never into running, even when I was thin and went to the gym, but because I smoked I guess running wasn't made for me! I'm not even much of a walker these days.

I guess that smoking would have interfere with your breathing a lot.

I have never been one that could get into running. It was always too painful for me but I can see why people enjoy it so much. It does give you a kind of high feeling with the adrenaline pumping.

Sometimes the highs were so high, I thought I was going to fly. I also had tons of energy then.

This reminds me and my older sister when we were kids back in the Philippines . . we did not have shoes! Our late parents were so poor that they could not even buy us shoes . . not even sandals. My sister and I had to go to the school barefooted. I had my first pair of rubber shoes when I was in grade 5! However, from time to time I opted not to wear them . . not only that I did not want them to get damaged . . but more because my feet hurt!

I had never heard of North Star running shoes, so I appreciate the video. I was never into running. I was into skating. That's how I got my exercise. Roller skating four or five times a week at the rink. I do own a pair of Nike shoes but I really don't like those types of shoes. They make my feet too hot. The last time I wore a pair, we went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA and before lunch, I had to sit on a bench and take those shoes off, along with my socks and air out my feet. They felt like they were on fire. I haven't had them on since then. I mostly wear what they would call "loafers." I have several different pairs and they are much more comfortable to me.

Glad to heard that. You were lucky to buy them soon, because you liked and searched them. Take care when you are running.
