Boring, Why, Disco and Sweet Lips....

United States

No I have not gone over the deep end, well, maybe I have come to think of it. What do those words have in common? They are all names of towns in the good old USA. Boring, Oregon Why, Arizona Disco, Tennessee Sweet Lips, Tennessee Speaking of Tennessee, we also have: Ducktown, Turtletown and Soddy Daisy. I personally like Cranky Corner, Louisiana - a good place for unhappy people to live. If you are hungry try Pie Town, New Mexico; or Sandwich, Massachusetts. If you need some cheering up visit Happyland, Oklahoma! I heard people are rich in Wealthy, Texas. How many towns with strange or silly names can you come up with?

That was fun to read. I can't think of any offhand here in New Zealand, but some of our Maori place names do have interesting translations.

Thanks, I was sitting here laughing at the name Soddy Daisy, which isn't far from us, and it got me thinking about strange names.

Ducktown is a smal (tiny) town that we pass thru when we go to Blue Ridge, GA. I think they have a motel, a Piggly-Wiggly and a gas station!

@AbbyGreenhill The name was nice and funny, but it does not seem a great town after all.

@LadyDuck It's rather dumpy and the county it is in has a 'bad' reputation.

At first I thought you were talking about boring disco... and I never thought there are town names! I'd like to visit Happyland! I haven't heard of any weird town name in my country yet. Perhaps it's good to find out.

I recently found out that there are some towns in other states that copy towns right here in Idaho. I found that interesting.
