Haircut for $3

There is a shop near my house that allows us to save on hair cut. The membership program is quite simple. You get a $50 package, and they will give you $2 extra. Each hair cut during the weekday cost $3, and $4 during the weekend or public holiday. I bought the package more than a year ago, and I still have half the value. I think my $50 package can really last a long time. $50 becomes my budget for hair cut for 2 years, namely last year, and this year.

That is pretty cheap. How do they make money on that?

Sounds like a good deal. I have a friend from church who has her own beauty shop that cuts my hair. She charges 10.00 for a haircut. Have a blessed day.

Our hair salon here used to charge $10 before the price war started. There are some salons still stick to the $10 price but most have lowered the cost to $5 or $8 for non-member.

I don't buy any package for haircut because it is quite expensive here and they expect you to dye or perm my hair as it will use up your package immediately. And I just want to have a simple haircut. It is fine to cost me about USD6 each time.

@scheng1 Here everything costs higher and higher. USD6 is for a normal haircut. My colleague had a perm hair and it cost her at least USD300 and I think it is crazy.

If a simple cut costs about USD6 in your place, that is very expensive. When compared to the salary paid by McDonald's to the part-timers, the hair cut costs just half an hour of their hourly salary.

That is because the salary in your country is way too low. The salary in Singapore is still a bit lesser than US, but after tax, the salary is about the same. How much does the fast food worker earn in an hour at your place? 200 rupees?

I only get my hair cut about every 2 months, so that $50 dollars would last me nearly 3 years. Yours is extremely cheap though - mine costs me about $15 a time.

i have never had a $15 hair cut in my life. It used to be $10 per hair cut across the country, then someone started a chain to fight the established player. They even reached as low as $1 for those who signed up as members at one time. I think the price is not sustainable, so the current price of $3 sets in.

What is the rate of supermarket cashiers or fast food workers? if they make 100 rupees per hour, that means the hair cut is quite costly. Over here, supermarket cashiers make about $6 per hour, and fast food workers make about $5.50 per hour, so a hair cut takes up half an hour of their labor.

That's pretty cheap. Is $3 Singapore dollar or USD? Here we can get around $3 USD per hair cut, it's considered as quick haircut, without any special request. We usually went for these shops. I seldom go to the saloons in the shopping mall, as I know the price for haircut is higher. Moreover, I don't really like them to keep promoting me to buy certain products.

@scheng1 Yes, if it's Singapore dollar, then it's really cheap. Good for you!

Singapore dollar, not USD. I do not think the price can go any lower. At this price, they are not making much profit, unless someone wants a wash or a dye.

In Denmark women often have to pay more than $60 for one haircut Men pay less but it is still expensive. That kind of package sounds amazing.

@scheng1 In my country the minimum wage is about $20 before taxes, and we receive $10 after taxes. A woman who receives the minimum wage has to work 6 or 7 hours to pay for a haircut.

I wonder why they have to charge so much when the minimum wage is so low. At least here, a fast food worker can get a simple hair cut for just half an hour of his pay.

That sounds like an awesome deal/package your hair salon offers. Mine offers the 10th haircut free, review on Yelp, get a free haircut and occasionally coupons in the mail for $10 haircut and complimentary shampoo which is a great deal!

Fortunately the salons here have not learned to give free shampoo as part of marketing gimmick. If they add in this marketing gimmick, they can increase the price to $4 and still get many people to sign up.

My salon charges $200 for the works. I suppose men would get more use out of a shop like that.
