They wont let you pay at the pump at night

I am curious as to why, and I hate gas stations like this especially when you have to stand in line for 15 minutes to pay.
I went to get gas, and when it said pay inside instead I just went to the next gas station in which I could pay at the pump.
I find this annoying and I will be avoiding that gas station now.

That is how I view it as.
But it declined it at the pump, and says pay attendent inside after 6pm.
I thought wtf is that, and the transaction kept cancelling so I got in my car and went to the next gas station.

You have to pay inside to pump gas at night? That isn't safe and doesn't make sense. It makes more sense to be able to pay conveniently at the pump instead of walking far. I wouldn't want to step away from my car and who knows who can be around.

Exactly, I was confused at why they have this. But I find it a hassle especially being -20 C outside.

@ricki_911 Wow! I cannot imagine that kind of weather! There are other gas stations allow you to pay at the pump though?
