Gas in Michigan is only 78 cents a gallon! Whoa!!!

Throughout 10 years of driving, I don't ever recall seeing gas less than $2, let alone less than $1! In Michigan, it's 78 cents a gallon! There is actually a record low of 47 cents at a station in Houghton. With gas being this low, many were getting gas to the point police had to help direct traffic! How much are gas prices averagely around you? I live in Southern California, regular gas price is around $3 bucks a gallon! The max a few summers ago, was at $5! I hope to see gas prices decrease soon! (Image Credits) foxnews.com/us/2016/01/18/gas-prices-fall-below-1-in-michigan

@infatuatedbby Litres but I converted it to gallons. It's currently around £1.03p per litre but it all depends on where you go.

It's good that the gas is much cheaper now. I think the price of the gas really affects us a lot. I just checked, the gas price here is about $0.42 USD. I think it sounds cheaper as compared to yours, but it's quite expensive for us as we are oil-producing country.

I would think oil producing country would have gas more affordable? Also, I think your gas doesn't go by gallons either so it's different a little in conversion.

@infatuatedbby Yeah, I forgot to mention the unit - it's $0.42 per liter here. Yes, I think we should enjoy the gas at a cheaper rate, but it's becoming more and more expensive.

I would imagine this has something to do with Flint Michigan, where those poor people have no water to drink. I am glad to see a state wide response. I took my water donation to the fire department this morning. I guess the whole cities water system is contaminated with LEAD! Those poor people, the vets, the children, the elderly and the men and woman of America with no water!! Everyone on my road went to the store this weekend and we all bought water to take to the fire department. The whole area, my city and four or five others will be sending the donations at the end of each week until the crisis is over. We can just drop them off at any fire station for the red cross, or fema or whoever will come get it. I was so proud to see so many people getting water. Anyway, with no water, those people need the cheepest gas they can get!!!

I read that on the news just recently! The water is contaminated with LEAD and everyone is force to buy water bottles and it is crazy. That is very nice of you to donate water. And yes, there is a story behind the gas then! The news failed to point that out.

@infatuatedbby I rather wish that the news around the whole country would cover the fact that we have so many people without clean water. I mean, this is America. More people would help if they only knew what happened.

@AbbyGreenhill I think so! The conversion says 1 liter is 0.264172 of a gallon.

There's really not much up there in North-Central Michigan, trust me. It's not worth the trip. :P

@infatuatedbby Michigan is surrounded by massive lakes, why go to North central Michigan to see a smaller lake? But you're right, there are good reasons to visit. I used to live in Western Michigan. If you're an outdoors-person, there is quite a lot to do there - even in the winter. I think the area surrounding these low gas prices might appeal to hunters.

No idea, maybe the news is a little bit late and it was a one day thing since so many people saw and filled their gas tanks up! I need to start using points from the grocery store to get discounts! I always forget.

In 1977, gas was 29 cents a gallon in December. By January, thanks to OPEC, gas had gone to 78 cents a gallon. I was working in a convenience store at the time.

Wow .78? Here in Texas the average is 1.65; which is fantastic @infatuatedbby . Boy now would be the time to buy a 300 gallon tank for the back yard and get it filled up.
