So that just happened.... (phone update)

So I posted that my husband went ahead and cancelled the land line to try and cut down on costs. Most of the calls we get are just phone numbers we don't recognize and don't bother answering. Over the last two days this one number has been calling over and over again. I answered once but if I don't get an immediate response I hang up. Today, the second time they called today, I decided to answer and wait to hear if someone was actually there. Guess who it was? You'll never guess. Yup, the phone company. But instead of Customer Service, who my husband spoke to, I was being called but a Customer Loyalty Representative. I argued with him at first and was a little belligerent. I know he was trying to get me to keep my home phone (which was the smallest part of our bill at only $50 a month or so, maybe less). I finally brought my phone bill up on the computer and went through things with him. He couldn't help me with internet but he could help me with television. I told him I didn't want MORE services, I want to spend LESS money. What he was offering was to change my PVR from a single recording device where you can't watch another channel, to a new PVR where I can tape 3 shows and watch a 4th channel all at the same time. He was also going to give me back channels my husband cancelled awhile back. "So," I said, "You're going to give me MORE services for LESS money." He said, "Now you're on the same page, Patricia." My spirits lifted and my humour emerged and I did get him laughing. So our home phone is not going to get cancelled, I will get more television services, and our overall bill (television, phone, internet and cell phones) will decrease by $83.00 a month. This promotion will be in play for 24 months. I asked him what happens after 24 months, would the price be jacked back up, am I supposed to call him, would he still be working there? He laughed at that and said he wasn't going anywhere, that he loves his job, loves making customers happy. So... no phone disconnection, new services, and lower bill. Hurray!

Wow - that seems amazing although we had something similar when we tried to cancel a bank account. We got all sorts of goodies as long as we didn't close the account.

See that worked out for you. I need to change my cell phone plan. My contract is finished in July. I need to change from a business plan to a personal. I'd like the cost to go down.. Maybe a pay as you go....we'll see what they are prepared to offer.

I told the rep that I wanted some changes made on our cell phone plan. We have unlimited texting and about 200 minutes free long distance. The only problem we have is when we go over data. But we have 4 phones on our family plan so it's costly. He said he would talk to another rep and transfer me. When the other guy came on the line, he said he understand my financial difficulties. I started talking and then we got disconnected... and he didn't call back. Imagine having a dropped land line call from the phone company.

Nope. Check out a post I'm about to write. All hell has broken loose, so to speak.
