Quality or Quantity, what is the most important?

In production, this is an issue , many in manufacturing have dealt with.We see all the commercials , telling us how important quality is , and how the maker assure the quality of the product.Quality is priority one, is what most will say. But what happens in a plant when production has been substandard all day long, and some time during the evening hours, a major machine break down occurs, causing 4 hours of down time? Either some one doesn't get there order that day, or , in some plants, mandatory over time goes into force, causing a crew, who is already exhausted, stays over to make the necessary needs. What do you think the chances of making a quality product are, under these conditions?

They want both quality and quanity which sometimes is not easy to manage.

@meltean59 Quality should always come before quanity.

Under those circumstances, quality will suffer. I'm sure things like that happen all the time. Maybe that's why we have product recalls so often.

There are so many variables that can cause problems in production, We just don't realize the millions of issues.
