The Flurries They a Fell!

This morning I was writing about snow flurries falling in the Panhandle of Florida, but not quite making it to where I live in the north central part of the state. Boy was I wrong! My son called me from his friend's house to tell me how excited he was to see snow flurries in Gainesville! I went outside, and sure enough they were floating down ever so gracefully from the sky. I then started seeing reports on various social media sites of other people witnessing the snow flurries (it's a big deal anytime we see snow in Florida, no matter how minor it is!). It was very short-lived though, because about an hour later the strong wind and storms blew threw, and the sun peeked its head out from behind the clouds, ensuring that we would see no further flurry activity for the rest of the day. It's such a shame too, because our overnight lows will drop down into the mid-20's, so if the clouds/storms would have remained we could have had a chance for some real snow in Florida! Oh well, maybe next time!

Does it ever snow anywhere in Australia? Luckily, if I ever want to see snow during the winter time, I just have to drive or fly a couple of hours north to find parts of the US with snow.

@moffittjc It does snow in Melbourne in the mountains, New South Wales in some areas, and Tasmania.

@moffittjc Me too! Only drive for a couple of hours up North and BAM you are at a hill station. LOL! But have never been there. I have been to plenty of places far and wide. Seen the desert, the forest and even the ocean but never to a place where it snows which is like right in my neighbourhood. Strange how things happen in life! @VivaLaDani13 Maybe we will see it together one day.

We're hearing of big snow falls in some areas and lots of car crashes.

It's pretty bad across most of the eastern seaboard of the US, stretching from Maine up at the Canadian border all the way down to Georgia in the south. Over 85 million people are affected by this blizzard!

@JudyEv I heard on the news today that because of the storm, 3,000 airline flights had to be cancelled today. 85 million people. 3,000 airline flights. That is one MASSIVE blizzard!

@moffittjc That is a LOT of people. There are bound to be many incidents of one sort or another with so many people affected.

That's so unheard of though seeing snow in Florida. Glad you got to see a little bit of it though before it went away.

Guess I need to really enjoy it before global warming takes it away from us forever! In the past 15 years that I have been living here in north Florida, that was only the third time we've had flurries.

What is a novelty to you is anything but to those in New York at present. I have been watching CNN and much as I love the beauty of the white stuff I am glad that I am living here where, like you, the flurries are a pleasure that only briefly come my way.

That is true! While I get excited at the white stuff, the people in New York are probably cursing people like you and I! But it's the same way with the beach...I grew up on the beach here in Florida, so the beautiful white sand and the gently rolling waves are nothing to me, but when the people of New York and other northern climates come to Florida to visit, they get all giddy at the site of a beach! I laugh every time! "It's sand, people! It's just sand! What is so exciting about sand?"

Snow isn't something I'd associate with Florida I've heard it's getting really bad in some areas of the US...been the top story on the news here. We often have snow and occasional floods here in my area but generally you'd have to go further north for the really big snow falls.

Yeah, snow in Florida is a very rare occurrence. It's probably been six or seven years since anyone has seen snow here. And when it does happen, it's only in the northern part of the state. The central and souther parts of Florida never see snow!
