a confused cat

The current weather has utterly confuzzled one of my bundles of furry fun. The last ten days or so have been stupidly cold, much as you'd expect from January. Dora hasn't wanted to nip out at all unless in desperation, and once her toiletry requirements have been satisfied, she's been attempting to claw her way back in. The last two days have been glorious. Yesterday we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies, complete with spring-like temperatures, and today has been mild, albeit with too many clouds so the sun couldn't find its way through. Dora's day went something like this ... Let me out! Let me in! Let me out! Let me in! Let me out! Let me in! Let me out! Oh, if you're going to bed I won't go out again after all! She's now curled up beside me, sleeping. I always wonder how odd the world must seem to creatures like cats and dogs living in a climate like ours. Hot! Cold! Wet! Frost! Snow! Ice! Sunshine! Sunbathe! Wind! Thunder! Hail! ... Sometimes all in one day. It must be strange. At least she got lots of fresh air today, to make up for the lack of it last week. Meanwhile, little Qyzy hasn't been out at all, and has instead required cuddles all day. He's so needy. *sigh*

I also have a Dora - short for Pandora Warrior Princess.

Ours is short for Adora, which was her given name at the shelter. We lengthen it to Adorable sometimes, because she is. :)

She does. They both do. They're the children I don't have!

@Gillygirl They do get very feisty when they can't {won't} go out. :)

I think that what confuses cats most is that it's so warm inside and so cold out. Cats actually mind the cold less than we do but it's the promise of 'outdoors' when they're inside and the promise of 'blissful warnth' when they're out which confuses them. If they were totally outdoor cats or lived in a house that was only relatively warmer than outside (as they used to be - do you remember frost ferns on window panes?), they'd probably cope pretty well (provided there was food) but as they have got used to living in the summer warmth of modern centrally heated houses, their body thermostats have become totally confused.

@Poppylicious The cats would probably miaow at you in chorus that you should do everything to make them more comfortable, even if it means spending less on heating (which savings can, of course, be spent on special food).

That makes sense. Should I turn my heating off so that it's as cold as outside?! *grin*

Mildred my Cat, who also just starting writing on myLot, is strictly an indoor cat. She has never been outside (except for one brief escape) since I've gotten her about 8 years ago. We live on a very dangerous-for-cats street and she is safest inside.
